Why the board:
It has been brought to the attention of the moderators that sometimes discussion should be kept in the serious tone that it was originally posted in.

This board is designed for more serious topics, that simply would not work in the Politics section, and it is asked that if you participate in any threads, you will remain on topic and courteous. Thread-jacking is not appreciated here, and joking should be kept to a minimum. If you want to joke around and have fun, please go back to Playful Penguin Place. Off topic posts will be deleted going forward.

If you GENERALLY don't like the reaction to your threads in PPP, please start them in TTT. That PPP is meant to be playful, spaces, off topic, pretty much anything except for spam/porn IS tolerated there.

Special thanks to Alan for his idea and helping Bobo and Tam iron out the details of the Board.

ETA: We are thinking that this board will have a trial run. If there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest, threads will be moved back to PPP and this board will be erased. That's not to say start posting random serious topics, we are still looking for quality topics. Just keep it real.

Count me as among those who think it's high time we had at least one refuge for serious discussion.  But damn, did I get things off on the wrong foot, having just seen the formerly-serious (and as a serious thread, pretty interesting) Affair of the Heart thread declared a free-fire zone... 

Hey, it was in the PPP when I clicked "Reply", not my fault it's in the TTI when I clicked "Post".  That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

I am not going to delete any of the posts in the threads that have been moved here now. However, from this point forward I would like to ask that you refrain from thread-jacking them further.

Cooperation is definitely appreciated!

And for what it's worth, I think the "two sides" here are probably a lot closer to each other than they realize.  I think you've got a valid point -- it's just a question of how you phrased it.  It ruffled some penguin feathers.  I, too, am guilty of being somewhat peeved during a time period when it seemed that every thread seemed to end up as an instant message conversation about things completely unrelated to the original topic.  But then I'm also guilty of terminal snarkiness.

(My peeve with the practice wasn't so much the posters or the subject matter, but that it made it impossible for any newcomer to the board to figure out which of the "recently-updated" threads were actively discussing the original topic, and which threads had been turned into public instant messaging transcripts or twitter feeds.  If I come to a board as a newbie, and see that every thread has 1 page of content, and 10 pages of back-and-forth about the weather, I typically stop reading after the first page or two and conclude that the board traffic is largely robotic in nature and exists solely for the purpose of generating banner ad impressions.  In this case, it isn't 'bot traffic -- but you'd have had to be a longstanding member of this site to recognize that -- and it really does carry a risk of making prospective new users click elsewhere.)

So let's all just chill out.  Remember, it's only ones and zeroes.

Btw, Tam, I DO think it is better that this board ..... is NOT a 'subdivision' of 'Playful penguin place'.

People are LESS likely to make the HONEST mistake, of thinking they can just 'lark around' ... in this section. I HONESTLY hope my fellow penguins, of like mind .... WILL respect what this is about ... but I  DON'T 'own' them. They are their own people .... (and, they DID ignore me before ..... when I pleaded for respect to this section ..........    :-[    :(  )

I want to go on the record to say that I think having this new board is awesome. I think it was needed because a lot of these threads really don't fit any place else and it is nice that they have a home of their own. Thanks Mr. Mister for the idea and thanks Tam, Bobo, & Chucky for making it happen.

I will admit, I have been 'slightly' naughty here, just the one time. Think it was that women's childbirthing thread. I got a link from  Tam / was dared by someone else .... to post in it. It was ONLY after I submitted, that I noticed it was HERE within 'TTT'.

I did think about deleting it, since it was a post that was more suited to PPP ... smilies a plenty, lame humor ... but as the topic starter used a 'cheesy smiley'  / didn't think she'd object .... well, I decided to let it stand .... leave someone to complain / Tam to delete ... if required  (no big deal).


I'm pleased to say, so far / so good .... it DOES seem to be working out ?


Btw ... the other day, I was trying to find that 'after the serious weather'  thread that ChuckyG posted in recently.  Suprised it's in PPP.
