Subject: NFL American Football Playoffs & Super Bowl 2024

Written By: AmericanGirl on 01/11/24 at 9:35 pm

This thread is to discuss anything related to the 2024 NFL playoff season in January/February 2024.

I was so disappointed that the Colts lost to Houston. I think the gosh awful officiating during the regular season has resulted in some lack of interest or accusations of the game being rigged. I hope the officials improve during the post-season or more fans will tune out. :(

Condolences to Colts fans.  I've heard murmurs about NFL officiating too, though not to the "sink your teeth into this" extent.  :-\\  Time will tell.

I can think of only one NFL team I consistently dislike more than the Dallas Cowboys - that's the Green Bay Packers.  WHY OH WHY did stupid Dallas let themselves get beat?!?!?  (And that after taking my beloved Philly's spot)    >:(

The Packers lost to the 49ers!  :D

WOW!!!  That Kansas City/Buffalo game was a thriller for sure!  I didn't have a strong preference, but I would've welcomed "new blood" Buffalo.  But as they've often done in recent years, Kansas City found a way to pull off a win.  All the lead changes kept the outcome in suspense until the end.  What a game!  :D

I'm hoping for the Lions. They just have to win against the 49ers on Sunday in the NFC Championship, while in the AFC it's the Chiefs vs. Ravens.

Ordinarily I root against the Lions (division foes) but this year I wouldn't mind seeing them do well.  I'm up for some "new blood" this year.

Since I have family in Michigan it gives me a reason to cheer for all things Michigan and Detroit. The Redwings are my favorite hockey team.

what I fear most now is a Chiefs - 49ers Superbowl, the two teams I despise the most. The 49ers were never on my radar until
they cried, whined and made every excuse possible as to why they lost last year to the Eagles.

I'm afraid your fears have been realized - Super Bowl will be Chiefs vs. 49ers.  :-\\  So much for new blood.

The 49ers/Lions game last night was really close. The Lions really blew it with their twice failed 4th down conversion attempts and the fumble, and so many openings in their defense.

A pic of Eminem flipping off 49ers fans went viral on social media.

I think so too. They are like the new Patriots.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch (had a conflict).  Glad it was a good game - sorry to hear the outcome.  :-\\

I don't completely despise the Chiefs yet, but the "I'm tired of them" sentiment is definitely brewing.  And enough with the Taylor Swift camera shots already!

Now the big discussion on the media/social media is if she can make it to Las Vegas for the Superbowl from Tokyo where she is doing scheduled for her Eras tour. People are actually doing the math trying to calculate the time zone difference and flight time.

Here's a commercial that will be featured in the Superbowl, with Jenna Ortega:

And congratulations to Taylor Swift's boyfriend's team. What did you think of the game overall (including the Halftime Show and commercials)?

Was entertaining yesterday so we didn't pick it up until mid-3rd quarter.  But it was really exciting football!  I seriously didn't know who was going to win.  I love close games like that!

My brother was playing a "drinking game" (with I don't know who) based on Taylor Swift camera shots.  That's an appropriate response LOL!  At the end of the game he said he counted 8 such camera shots, and also that he was drunk.  ;D

Who won, and what was the final score?

In overtime, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.  The final score was 25 to 22.  This makes the Chiefs the first back-to-back Super Bowl winner in 20 years!

It was epic - we were on the edge of our seats!  Many Super Bowls have been lopsided.  Too bad we missed the halftime show (we still had company) as I heard it was pretty good.

HT Show was pretty good as it was mostly a throwback to 2004, and not just with Usher but Lil' Jon and Ludacris got on stage and performed as well. As always there were plenty of memes about it on social media, mainly with Millennials.

As I do with every Superbowl, what are your favorite commercials? Here are mine:

- Mountain Dew with Aubrey Plaza (and Nick Offerman)
- Pringles with Chris Pratt
- Popeyes with Ken Jeong
- State Farm with Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Uber Eats with Jennifer Anniston and David Schwimmer

Thanks for the assessment.  I'll see if I can catch it online later.

Sad to say we didn't catch many commercials.  Once our company left, we turned on the game but as you can imagine we had a lot to do to "put the house back in order" which is what we did mostly during commercials.  I'll make it a point to try and look up at least the commercials you listed.

There was also a more serious, religious-oriented commercial for the app Hallow. For star power the commercial featured Mark Wahlberg. It also featured the actor who plays Jesus in the recent "Chosen" series. The catchphrase, apparently coined by Wahlberg, is "stay prayed up".

I heard there was a Hallow ad but didn't see it (I've seen others).  I like Jonathan Roumie as an actor and I'm a big fan of "The Chosen", but I never used the Hallow app.

Mark Wahlberg said in an interview that the work he has done for Hallow is the thing that people ask him about or comment about more than anything else in his entire career. More than the Funky Bunch. More than the hit movies he has been in. More than "Boogie Nights" even.  :D

I must admit although I've heard Mark Wahlberg's name plenty, I don't recall seeing many of his works.  Kudos to him for his work for Hallow.  I'm not very interested in the app myself (ala, if you're already a good painter why would you invest a lot to learn "paint by numbers"), but it's nice to hear Hallow has a lot of young fans.

I liked Wahlberg's "Boogie Nights" movie because it takes place in the 70s and was pretty accurate about it. I also liked him in Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" which also had Jack Nicholson in it. One Wahlberg movie I really liked that the rest of the word hated was "Rock Star" with Jennifer Anniston, loosely based on Judas Priest, and how they just plucked a nobody singer out of a Judas Priest tribute band to replace Rob Halford. He plays essentially the same character as he did in "Boogie Nights", the innocent young kid who gets corrupted. In "Boogie Nights" it's by the porn industry, in "Rock Star" it's by the music business. He was good at that kind of thing although he's a bit up in years now for that kind of part.

"Boogie Nights" might be worth checking into on streaming.  Thanks for the idea!
