French police are searching the headquarters of the organisers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

"Paris 2024 is co-operating fully with the investigators to facilitate their investigations," a spokesperson for the organising committee told the BBC.

It is not yet clear what prompted the raids in and around the French capital.

Reports in French media suggest financial police are involved as part of a probe into suspected corruption.

Oh dear! :o

Hopefully this won't be too serious in the long run.

Actually I'm more fearful of the population of Muslims in France. They have always sided with the Palestinians as have advocated killing Jewish and Americans. We cannot have another Munich incident. :\'(

I always avoided going to cities during the Olympics. In 2012 I went to London about a week after the closing ceremony, as is was less crowded and got better deals on hotels.

Interesting.

In 1984 the Summer Olympics were held in Los Angeles (which is the general area where I live) and even though I was 4 then, I still have some sort of memory of them.

I was living in the suburbs of Atlanta in 1996, but I don't think I ever went into the city during those weeks. It was pretty busy at my work with many customers that were there for the games.

Opening ceremony in progress. This one is different is it is having the parading of the colors and the same time as the festivities, and not only that but it is outside the main venue with the teams of athletes on boats on the Siene River. Meanwhile Zinedine Zidane carried the torch and Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance performing a French jazz song.

The rest of the opening ceremony was great as well, with the mysterious masked torch bearer doing parkour and zip-lining across the river, the torch lighting in a hot air balloon, and then ending with Celine Dion's performance on the Eiffel Tower. I highly recommend watching the replay.

You might be able to catch the replay somewhere online. The best part for me was the handoff to LA 2028.

That’s true. In fact, I saw part of the “handoff” scene on my local news this morning.

I especially liked the performances by the local LA artists/bands: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, then Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Three different genres and eras that made it very dynamic. Also the beginning of it with Tom Cruise performing a stunt in the Stade de France. Soon as I heard the Mission: Impossible theme I knew it was going to be him.
