Subject: Should the NFC and AFC add a Central Division?
Written By: SeaCaptainMan97 on 04/30/18 at 7:23 pm
Gridiron Football is America's sport, no doubt about that.
Unfortunately, there can only be 32 teams, and many of those teams move, which is a big slap in the face to the city those teams are leaving, best example of this as of recently being St. Louis losing the Rams. A similar case could be made for Oakland losing the Raiders to Las Vegas recently, but they are a stonethrow away from San Francisco, they have an alternative team to route for with the 49ers.
Not only that, but many cities, such as St. Louis, certainly have the large crowds for a football team, it can certainly work. Here's a few I think should be added.
- Portland
- Salt Lake City
- Oklahoma City
- Des Moines
- San Antonio
- Austin
- St. Louis
- Birmingham
These are 8 cities, meaning half could go into the NFC, and another half into the AFC.
If they were to be added, then so should a new division in both the NFC and AFC, being a Central Division. However, doing that would also require re-mapping the NFL map for geographical accuracy.
NFC
West
Seattle
Portland
San Francisco
Los Angeles Rams
North
Minnesota
Green Bay
Chicago
Detroit
Central
Arizona
Oklahoma City
Dallas
St. Louis
South
San Antonio
New Orleans
Tampa Bay
Atlanta
East
Carolina
Washington
Philadelphia
New York Giants
AFC

Los Angeles Chargers
Las Vegas
Salt Lake City
Denver
North
Baltimore
New York Jets
Buffalo
New England

The NFL used to have Central divisions from 2001 and earlier, that's why when the NFL expanded in 2002 they added the North and South in each conference, therefore, we have the East, West, North, and South for each conference (AFC and NFC). No they don't need to add anymore more NFL teams. 32 teams are good enough with 16 in each conference and 4 in each division. 16 game regular season schedule. Teams you play in your division twice a year which is 6 games. 4 teams from another division in your conference you play once every 3 years. 4 teams from a division outside of your conference you play once every 4 years. Then the 2 teams you draw depending on what place you finished the previous year. 6+4+4+2=16. It doesn't need to be changed anytime soon. It's perfect the way it is.

I'm wondering this too, to be honest. The "more than a decade" section isn't for off-topic discussions. ;D

The Chiefs last 2 playoffs wins were in Houston against the Oilers and in Houston against the Texans. Maybe the Chiefs need all their playoff games to be in Houston for them to go back to the Super Bowl. They can't win a home playoff game and their collapse against the Titans in the wildcard showed that. Andy Reid being Andy Reid just like when he was with the Eagles.

Funny you're mentioning that, because apparently, the NFL, this topic, popularized the crop tops for guys fashion, the topic of the other thread.

Arrowhead is one of the hardest stadiums for opposing teams to play at, until the playoffs. :-[

Yeah that's what I thought. It's supposed to be the Seattle of the AFC but apparently it's not. The Seahawks haven't lost a home playoff game since the Rams beat them in the playoff game in 2004-05. The Seahawks have won like a bunch consecutively and the teams who came close to winning down there such as the 2006 Cowboys or the 2014 Packers totally choked it away (such as the Romo botched snap or the Packers blowing a very late 4th quarter lead up by 12). The Steelers' stadium (Heinz Field) is the toughest place to play in the AFC IMO, so tough that they have an all time record of 215-0-2 (NEVER lost a game, only 2 ties) whenever they lead by 14 or more in their home stadium. Teams who win in Pittsburgh have to play neck and neck the whole way.
