First news of the new season:

Eerste Divisie/Jupiler League will be consisting of 20 teams, instead of the current 16. Two amateur sides and two so-called "Beloften Elftallen" will be added to the tally.
The "Beloften Elftal" is basically the second team of a team now playing in Eredivisie (candidates are Ajax and PSV, among others), with several restrictions. Those teams won't be eligible for promotion to Eredivisie, for one, and I believe there are certain age restrictions as well.
Amateur side Achilles '29 (champions of 2012/2013 season Sunday Topklasse) have already decided they will be playing Jupiler League next season. Katwijk, overall amateur champions of 2012/2013 and champions of Saturday Topklasse 2012/2013, have yet to decide.

WC Qualifier, September 6:

Estonia 2 - 2 The Netherlands

Well, that was disappointing.
An early goal by Arjen Robben put us in the lead, and the first 15 minutes were promising. But in the 18th minute Estonia equalized (the only shot they had at goal in the first half!) and things got harder.
Ten minutes in the second half, Estonia took the lead (one of only two chances they got in second half) and things got even worse (from our point of view). It was all too slow, with too many players making inaccurate passes or taking the wrong decisions. That nearly got us killed.
A stroke of luck in additional time saved our butts, though: we were rewarded a penalty kick.

So in the end we lost two points in this game, but what's worse: both Arjen Robben and Bruno Martins Indi were served a yellow card, meaning they'll be suspended for Tuesday's game against Andorra.

WC Qualifier, September 10:

As incredible as it may sound, but FC Twente are still leading the table with only 19 points. And there are still only 2 points separating numbers 1 and 8 of the table! :o

With Bobo gone, there seems to be no point in continuing this thread. Therefore I consider locking it.

Scores can still be posted in the "Longest Sports Thread Ever", like I am with the international cricket news and scores.

Last Friday, PSV Eindhoven took a 2 to 6 beating (at home, no less!) by Vitesse Arnhem... PSV are currently in tenth place, which is an unusual position to keep for said team.

It is very unlikely PSV coach Phillip Cocu will remain just that until the end of the season. I'm not even sure he'll make Christmas!

UEFA Champions League, December 11:

AC Milan 0 - 0 AFC Ajax

Ajax very much dominating the game, after a red card for Milan's Montolivo in the 22nd minute. Sadly though, big opportunities were scarce and the one goal that would've made the difference for Ajax never fell.
So now it's over - Milan go through in Champions League, and Ajax will have to settle for Europa League.

Just so you should know...there's still soccer going on in the Netherlands. ;)

Ajax are currently leading the table, 7 points clear of FC Twente and Vitesse Arnhem. Feyenoord Rotterdam are in 4th place, and PSV Eindhoven have moved up considerably since my last post to 5th place.

At the bottom of the table, still everything is possible. The gap between #9 (SC Cambuur) and #18 (Roda JC Kerkrade) is only 9 points, with six rounds of play left.
