My favorite sporting event of 2012 was the Scotland Rugby Union Tour of Australasia

Yes, the London Olympics had some great moments.
The only sporting event I attended last year, however, was the September 16 MLB matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers. My team ended up losing that game, but I still had a good time.
Can't really pick out a favorite, though.

I went to the NHRA Summernationals in Topeka, Kansas this last May (my first time at a professional drag racing event), and it was a mind-blowing experience. Even if you're not huge into motorsports I highly recommend going at least once, because seeing (and feeling!) an 8,000 horsepower Top Fuel dragster roaring past less than 50 feet away from me was one of the greatest visceral thrills I've had in my entire life. ;)
