Three tiers indeed - and thankfully Soccerway have done their bit to add Topklasse Sat. and Sun. to their leagues' list so thankfully there will be something to report from there.

Latest: Suarez will be suspended for two games.

According to a Dutch tv channel, no less then 12 Dutch professional soccer teams are faced with imminent bankruptcy and are therefore placed under guardianship of KNVB.
Twenty more teams are faced with less serious/imminent financial problems, and have to deal with strict supervision by KNVB.
Only four (!) teams (Telstar, Volendam, Go Ahead Eagles and sc Heerenveen) are financially healthy.

ASWH put their disappointment of a KNVB Beker defeat against Be Quick 1887 with a victory over Heerjansdam which takes them to the top of the H. Sat. B table. ACV bounce to the top of H. Sat. C with a 5 - 0 away win against SVZW.

Topping the Eerste Klasse divisions in the first round, AFC Ajax Amateurs, newly set-up team FC 's-Gravenzande, Alblasserdam, who lost out in the Promotion Play-offs last season, last season's H. Sat. B. basement team Bennekom, and Oeverzwaluwen, which is another name which I must admit is new to me...

It was all Holland during the first 65 minutes, as I understand it (haven't seen the game), and it should've been 5 or 6 for Holland by then. Lucky for the Swedes, it was 'only' 4 to nothing. The Swedes managed to pull one back in the 68th minute, and after that, it became somewhat hectic, without any damage for Holland though.

Mark van Bommel and Dirk Kuyt both sustained injuries. Kuyt is feared to have torn his ankle ligaments, while Van Bommel apprently aggravated a mild injury that he started with.

Yes, it's true. Feyenoord are in deep deep trouble. This is the biggest defeat they've ever suffered in the history of professional soccer in The Netherlands.

It's a good thing neither Vitesse nor VVV Venlo managed to win their games, otherwise Feyenoord would have dropped down to relegation zone.
Of course, they faced similar problems in 2008/2009 season and the STILL managed to qualify for UEFA Cup, so not all is lost. Still, I'm not sure...
No talks of Mario Been leaving Feyenoord (yet), but that might change in a couple of days: next Wednesday, it's Feyenoord vs VVV Venlo...

...this was the last we've seen of Dijkse Boys in Topklasse. Their sponsor quit, and team management announced they would no longer be playing in Topklasse.
KNVB have now stripped Dijkse Boys of their Topklasse status, declared all of the results of their previous Topklasse games null and void, and moved the team down to Hoofdklasse ranks. With the season already well underway, I doubt they'll be playing any competition games this season. Otherwise they'll have a lot of catching up to do.

As a result, nrs 14 and 15 from Sunday Topklasse will now relegate directly at the end of the season, with nr 13 sentenced to playing promotion/relegation playoffs.

Martin Jol stepped down as coach of Ajax yesterday. Though his coaching was subject to criticism, I didn't see this one coming.
Ajax are currently fourth, five points behind leaders PSV and Twente - which isn't THAT bad. :-\\
But I guess it's more to do with the unstable play and ditto results (elimination in Champions League, and only one win in the last five matches in Dutch competition).

Jol will be succeeded by former Dutch international Frank de Boer - at least until the winter break.

The last time a team scored seven goals in a game involving IJsselmeervogels, the goals were in fact scored against them - when they lost to Spakenburg, who finished the 2007-08 H. Sat. B at the top of the table.

And my rough skills with a Dutch translation tool inform me that the GVVV v. Xerxes game in H. Sat. B was suspended after a spectator suffered a cardiac arrest.

With the loss of the team at the top of the division, IJsselmeervogels go level on points with Spakenburg, while Rijnsburgse Boys, in third, continue further on their five-game winless run.

Well, it's a win. :-\\ But it wasn't good. At half time, we led 1 - 0, but five minutes into the second half and the tables were turned: 1 - 2.
We came back to 2 - 2 and even 3 - 2, but we gave the lead away just as easy.
Thankfully Dirk Kuyt saved our asses with two goals.

Yes, he passed away indeed, at the age of 86. His training methods were highly unusual at the time, but are now widely accepted and implemented.

On another note:

At the bottom of the Eerste Divisie, #18 Almere City FC have now nearly closed the gap to #17 Fortuna Sittard after their 4 - 0 win over #3 Helmond Sport. The two teams are only one point apart.

RKC Waalwijk beat FC Zwolle 3 - 0 in the clash for the lead in Eerste Divisie. Teams are now level at 67 points, but FC Zwolle has the better goal difference.

Still anyone's guess as to what will happen...

For eighth place (and qualification for Europa League Qualifiers) it's a race between FC Utrecht, Heracles Almelo, Feyenoord and sc Heerenveen. Those four are only four points apart.
At the bottom of the table, Willem II haven't relegated directly (yet...). They're now three points behind VVV Venlo.

RKC regain top spot after Zwolle drop points. This really is going down to the wire. Last week of the regular season next week..? RKC face Fortuna Sittard, while Zwolle face a potential stumbling block away at Cambuur. No Topklasse games tomorrow but a full quota next weekend.

One round of play left, and we still have no champion.

So it's all gonna be decided in two weeks from now, when #1 FC Twente face #2 Ajax Amsterdam. Never before it has come down to this: on the final day of competition nrs. 1 and 2 face each other in a direct battle for championship. FC Twente need just one point, Ajax need a win.

Coincidentally, the two teams also meet next week, for the final of KNVB Cup...

Battle for fourth place is down to AZ Alkmaar and FC Groningen.

FC Utrecht and Heracles Almelo still battle for eighth place, with a small theoretical chance left for Feyenoord.


And then there's the battle for top scorer in the Eredivisie...Three candidates left: Björn Vleminckx (N.E.C.) has 23, Dmitry Bulykin (ADO Den Haag) has 21 and Mads Junker (Roda JC) has 20.
The last time a player of N.E.C. won the title was back in 1972/1973 season (Cas Janssen, with an all-time low of only 18. He had to share his title with Willy Brokamp of MVV, btw.). No player of ADO or Roda JC ever won the title.

So none of the top 3 teams stand a chance of taking that title. I'm sure it happened before, but I don't know when. :-\\
And surprise, surprise... the winner is going to be a non-Dutch player.
