I see what it's supposed to be, but it looks silly.

or a very crooked human figure.

Finally solved it!
The top part is 20 and the bottom part is 12, thus making 2012.

It took me a while to spot that!
Someone I know described it as one of those plastic puzzles you get ina cracker where you have to make the shapes fit together as a square.
I love that on the BBC page they mention that it has the word London and the Olympic rings on it. ;D They're about the only bits I recognised at first.
It is meant to appeal to the youth...
Why?

I have a copy of an image which is a bmp and I cannot upload it. The image shows the 2012 logo with the graphics of the UK 80s TV show TISWAS. The graphics used are very similar.

Why?
To quote Michael Hamilton, one of the branding consultants, "I love it. It's got vibrancy and youth and energy and fun. I think it will appeal to young people because it's different and attempting to really focus on them as a group."

Yeah. I just don't get why it matters whether it appeals more to young peolpe than, say, grannies. :-\\

The Olympic logo is not meant to be 'incorporated' into anything in this way...
The BBC found this out in 1984, when they jazzed-up the BBC1 ident...they got a rather stiff talking-to when the games ended...

Knowing how many 'jobsworths' we've got in power over here, I'll bet all the events will be cancelled due to 'health and safety reasons'... ::)

Now that the fuss of the logo has die down and still no one likes it, even Mayor of London hates it. We will have to bear in mind that sometime soon there will be an announcement of the mascot for the Olympics.

It's horribly ugly, just too plain looking and weird. I can't think of any modern games that had a worse logo than this. I hope they change it.
