I watched part of the opening ceremonies.  That skier made by all the dancers was pretty dang cool.  As for the actual Olympics, I will probably only watch the ice skating.  The rest doesn't interest me at all.

I never watch olympics at all.. nor openings. I watch today so i could see Peter Gabriel sing.
I remember when i was liittle in the 60s and 70s that it was a big deal for the family to watch.  haven't tuned in in years.

I have always preferred the Winter Olympics to the Summer ones. I just like lots of snow and winter temps !! Love the ski jumping stuff - all varieties, and figure skating and ice dancing.

We are getting delayed telecasts so its on at prime time - so its 2.15pm now - at 8.30 tonight we will get the opening ceremony.  I saw some previews of it on last nights news from the rehearsals and it looks fab.

Not entirely, but most of it. Don't know why, really - it's just a waste of time & money (the opening ceremony, that is).

You mean the opening ceremony or the Olympics in general? ???
If you mean the latter one: I'm one of those approx. 4,000,000,000 world wide. It's impossible to see it all, so I'll concentrate on the speed skating events (I think we have a fair chance of winning some gold medals there... ::)). Never cared much for the figure skating events (with the "impartial" judges...), but I do like to watch the other events and I'll try to see as much as possible.

I sat through most of the opening ceremonies. I thought it intruiging that the Koreans entered under *one* flag. Hmmm...

Speed skating is the only event that I really make a point of watching during the winter games, but I'll probably catch some of the other competitions, too.

I liked that when the reps from India entered they began playing "funkytown".
wasn't the music strange?

Yes, indeed. Bob Costas commented on that several times throughout the broadcast. As he put it, "if they play 'Bette Davis Eyes' by Kim Carnes, my evening will be made!"  ;D Who came up with that soundtrack, anyway?

The musical theme I noticed was just pure 80s - sung by Italian singers. 'Gloria' was hilarious.

I watched the opening ceremony last night and really enjoyed it. I recorded it on my HDD so was able to watch it back without adds and speeches to lengthen it !!
Loved the Ferrari reving it up on the ice. Loved the people creating a giant skier - from above it looked fantastic.
Loved all the renaisance costumes at the "party". The acrobats were great too. And how fabulous does Sophia Loren STILL look !

All round it was a great improvement on Greece's closing ceremony which goes down as the single most boring of all time. (My all time faves are Sydney opening ceremony and Atlanta closing ceremony.)

It was the moving ski jumper made up of hundreds of volunteers that caught my eye at the Opening Ceremony.

bump...

I guess this thread's title doesn't make a whole lot of sense now...since the Olympics are officially over now. Anyone watch them at all today?? I saw a hockey match briefly.
