Subject: World Cup of Ice Hockey 2004
Written By: Satish on 08/30/04 at 11:37 pm
It's not too often that international ice hockey tournaments are held with the countries being represented by their top pro players. The 2004 competition takes place between the top eight nations(Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany), starts on August 30, and ends with the final game on September 14. I'm looking forward to the Canada-USA game on the 31st at 7pm ET.

It's official:
CANADA 2-1 USA
Woohoo! We won our opening game! And against our arch rivals, too.
I'll definitely be going to bed happy tonight!

Right here in Montreal baby!!!!!! Score should've been even higher though. Esche kept the Americans in it during the first period.
The only thing is, the Americans aren't the team to watch during this tourney. The Swedes have a pretty tough team.
Go Canada!!!!!!

CANADA handed the Slovaks their jocks and politely thanked them for showing up tonight ;D
Is there any doubt in anyone's mind who the greatest player on ice is? Mario lemieux continues to show us just what it takes to be one of (if not the) greatest players to grace God's iced earth.

As far as the NHL goes...no, there probably will be no hockey this season....and baseball...yeah, it's the sport with the most games in a season (162) but how can you be bored?! The playoffs are just around the corner, blackdog ;)

The group stage of the competition is over, now. It's time for the knockout rounds.
Here's the quarterfinal matchups:
Germany vs. Finland
Czech Republic vs. Sweden
Russia vs. USA
Slovakia vs. Canada
I thought Sweden were the best team in their group, but they were let down by their goaltending. Their goalies are terrible. They've probably got the best offence, though.

It's down to the final, now.
It's gonna be Canada vs. Finland on Tuesday at 7pm ET.
Here's the semi-final results that got them there:
USA 1-2 Finland
Canada 4-3 Czech Republic (in overtime)
The Canada-Czech Republic game was real back and forth. One of the better games of the tournament.
