Subject: In depth Favorite Musical Genre
Written By: Dominic L. on 08/20/05 at 1:00 am
I put as many genres I could think of, I know there's more, but I'm tired and can't think of any... I'm doing this because I want to know what people on here like without putting restrictions. Vote for as many as you want. Tell me what you voted for, I promise I won't laugh, not matter what you put. :)

Well, I'm not too sure how to categorize everything, but off the top of my head I can tell you that you are missing 70's disco.
Would The Beatles be considered "Classic Rock"?
I like doo-wop, 70's & 80's pop, 80's-early 90's rock, new wave, alternative. (and disco of course)
I'm assuming "bubble gum pop" is like Debbie Gibson, Bananarama, Bangles?? If so, I like a little of it, but not a whole lot...
sorry, i've never kept up on all the classifications. :-[

thanks for the disco tip. The Beatles could be classic rock, but I'll make a british invasion genre for that also. Bubblegum pop is more like Teen pop like britney spears and the such. i will make a more general pop for bangles and the rest you mentioned.
Nice choice of music, btw.

What's emo music?
Supposedly emo is any song with emotional lyrics... but almost every band does... Emo is kind of a big genre that includes a little of each genre. A lot of people consider power pop to be emo, like Blink-182 and the such, but they aren't really... Screamo is (I think) emo that is screamed, hence the name.

"Emo Music" as a genre is a name given to a newish (evolved in the last 10 years) style of music which is quite emotional and pop-punk like.
It's hard to describe, but from what I know, bands like Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Blink 182 (sort of) etc. would be considered emo.
Wikipedia is a good source of information, I would suggest visiting that if you wish. :)

Speed Metal
Thrash Metal
Death Metal
Black Metal
Heavy Metal
Doom Metal
Gothic Metal
Industrial Metal
Then.. i'm very tentative about saying Nu Metal. Because as a whole, i really don't like it. But i like Slipknot, i like Disturbed and a couple of others.. so.. i guess i have to throw it in there.
Grindcore
Metalcore
Power Violence
And that about covers the heavy stuff.
I like a lot of Classic Rock stuff.
I can put up with some of what is now labelled emo, although i wouldn't call it that. I quite like Taking Back Sunday & Billy Talent for example.
Like a lot of the Grungey stuff as well.
Loads of other stuff as well. I don't like to limit myself to specific genre's. Or artists for that matter. There are about 4 Bruce Springsteen songs i like.. but i'm not particularly keen on anything else he's done..same principal applys in most places.

The stoner in me like psych rock... and at my heart, I'm an alternative fan.
However... my biggest genres are avant-garde and experimental.

Not a bad definition.
I love the whole Good Charlotte "we're so gothic' look. ;D ;D
Cracks me up every time..

OK, I'm finally learning the difference between Power pop and Emo... I find that Good Charlotte is a little bit of both.
Blink-182, unlike my friends think, is NOT emo... that is power pop.

There are also two types of EMO...
1. Pop EMO... whiny kids with well-to-do lives who magnify their own problems and act sad because their storybook expectations of life and love aren't met. Bands like The Postal Service, Simple Plan, some Bright Eyes. Think Pop Punk with a vagina.
2. Not Pop EMO... freaking insane mofos, usually with some sort of mental disorder such as dysthmia, MPD, and bipolar. Tend to be really pissed off, or really depressed.. so much that you know it's not scripted.. it's real. And you can feel it. But it's still emotional. Just real emotion. Things like Elliott Smith, older Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Beck when he's feeling depressed, etc.

i am a big fan of progressive rock and phychedelic rock though
i really like all facets of music, except hip-hop.i have a problem
with the term classic rock.they lumped together all styles of
rock into one catagory.they now have linda ronstadt(contemporary)
in the same catagory as led zepplin(heavy-metal).what will they call
todays rock twenty-five years from now?is "as i lay dying" and "bright eyes"
going to be in the same catagory?
