Almost a quarter of a century ago...amazing...!

Such was the gulf between US & UK music tastes at the turn of the decade, a lot of these fine songs missed the boat here...happily, we did manage to squeeze one or two in...

1. All Out Of Love - Air Supply 4, despite a string of successes almost everywhere, over here this was their only hit of any note...attractive ballad...

2. Longer - Dan Fogelberg 5, many may find it too sugary, but it's a thing of great beauty to me...superb...

3. More Than I Can Say - Leo Sayer 4, the fuzzy-haired one attacks the Bobby Vee back catalogue...different and interesting 'soft' cover...

4. Little Jeannie - Elton John 3, never really appealed in a big way here, hence you won't find it on our copies of any 'Greatest Hits' of his...okay, but nothing special...

5. Magic - Olivia Newton-John 4, lovely mellow number from that long-forgotten film...

6. Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen 4, good retro-rock pastiche, but has sadly since been hijacked by the 'line-dancing' fraternity...what would've Fred made of that!

7. Please Don't Go - KC & The Sunshine Band 4, good one! Very different change of style from the 'disco' workouts...was sadly slaughtered by our very own KWS in '92, awful!

8. Desire - Andy Gibb 3, Andy sings U2? Heh! Not quite! Trademark highly-polished Gibb affair, okay but not terribly essential...

9. Steal Away - Robbie Dupree 4, catchy jog-a-long thing...

10. Cars - Gary Numan 4, enjoyed a string of hits here which we all had to endure! This was about the best...

11. Ride Like The Wind - Christopher Cross 3, strangely this has never appealed in a big way to me...but competently done, nonetheless...we were subjected to a 'dancy' version in late '91 by East Side Beat, I yawned loudly...

12. Special Lady - Ray, Goodman & Brown 4, lovely smooth soul number from the same guys who brought you the excellent 'Love On A Two-Way Street' in 1970, when they were known as The Moments...

13. Cool Change - Little River Band 4, excellent number with excellent 'huge' ending...

14. Romeo's Tune - Steve Forbert ?, will have to look into this...!

15. Off The Wall - Michael Jackson 4, good 'disco-funk' workout, groundbreaking for its time...but did he get worse from here?

16. Dreaming - Cliff Richard 4, still churning 'em out, bless him! Cool number which suited him perfectly...

17. Refugee - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 4, you can't go wrong with a bit of Tom!...super effort...

18. Jane - Jefferson Starship 4, riffs a-go-go! Quite a hard number for this stage in their long career...has also been used in quite a few adverts here...

19. Lady - Kenny Rogers 3, okay, but nothing essential...Lionel should've saved this for himself, he'd have probably done better...

20. Too Hot - Kool & The Gang 3, slightly disappointing...they've done much better than this...

21. I Can't Tell You Why - Eagles 5, superb prowling beast of a number...their best in my book!

22. More Love - Kim Carnes ?, another one for the 'not known' list...

23. Give Me The Night - George Benson 4, superb guitarist who's gone right back to the jazz field nowadays...this was huge amongst the 'soul boy' fraternity and is still well-remembered today...

24. The Rose - Bette Midler 3, it's well sung by Bette, but it's not much of a song...

25. Sara - Fleetwood Mac 2, and sadly neither is this...meanders along with no real direction...
