Subject: Re: RT: 1973 Songs (Part 2)
1. Knocking On Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan 3, not as bad as I once thought it was...could still do something with that voice...
2. Bad Bad Leroy Brown - Jim Croce 4
3. Brother Louie - Stories 3, okay rendition but I much prefer Hot Chocolate's original...
4. Will It Go Round In Circles - Billy Preston 4, good singalong funk...
5. Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group 4, superb off-the-wall rocker...wanna know why it was called 'Frankenstein'? Apparently the finished recording contained so many edits in the master tape, that it looked like it had been stitched together like the legendary monster...
6. Superstition - Stevie Wonder 4, great song with dangerous use of electric piano...
7. The Morning After - Maureen McGovern 3, fine, but not fantastic song from The Poseidon Adventure...
8. Photograph - Ringo Starr 4, plods a bit, but catchy nonetheless...
9. Top Of The World - Carpenters 4, comfortably straddling Pop & Country, but a bit 'safe' compared to earlier works...
10. Rocky Mountain High - John Denver 4, beautiful melody and a very well performed song...
11. Reeling In The Years - Steely Dan 5, cool as they come...still essential today...
12. Superfly - Curtis Mayfield 4, good funky outing from the ex-Impressions man, but sadly trod water for many years after it...
13. Drift Away - Dobie Gray 4, lovely laid-back number which has almost hit standard proportions...but, guess what? It's never charted here...!
14. Kodachrome - Paul Simon 3, a bit average...not classic 'Simon'...
15. Daniel - Elton John 4, superb ballad...which almost never got released...Elt's management said it was too 'dreary'...they only backed down when Elt agreed to cough up the costs if it stiffed...and of course, it didn't...!
16. The Most Beautiful Girl - Charlie Rich 4, lovely guilt-ridden Country offering...the Silver Fox's biggest and best...
17. Tie A Yellow Ribbon - Dawn 4, guilty pleasure! Of course, I didn't know the meaning behind yellow ribbons at the time...clever song, and well-remembered by many...
18. My Love - Paul McCartney & Wings 1, Tch! However, he did redeem himself with the forthcoming 'Band On The Run' LP...
19. Killing Me Softly With His Song - Roberta Flack 4, tender reading of a fine song...I've still never quite forgiven the Fugees though...
20. Your Mama Don't Dance - Loggins & Messina 4, good slab of boogie-rock...

Yeah, I never really liked that song to begin with, but I can understand why people who may remember it when it was popular would like it. But for that clown Uncle Kracker to remake it...oy vey! It kind of makes me dislike the original version even more, which is rather sad.
