Colour me embarrased. I actually know all of these songs. Not well enough to rate them, mind.
Subject: Re: Zella & FB's good but obscure songs rating...
A fair old selection there, you two...most of which have even got me scratching my head...nevertheless...
1. The Day Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee - Hollies 4 - a bit of a mouthful if ever there was one...! Starts off what seems like part 2 of 'Long Cool Woman', but has a much better chorus...
10. Soul Makossa - Manu Dibango 4 - cool instrumental, which was much played in the '80's on pirate stations (may have even had a cover version at the time...)
11. I Ain't Got Time Anymore - Glass Bottle 3 - attractive maudlin-ish song, originally done here by Cliff Richard whose version had much more 'depth' to it...
17. Life Is A Minestrone - 10cc 3 - okay song with lyrics that contain some dreadful puns...
19. January February - Barbara Dickson 4 - fine singer with a glorious set of pipes...always seemed to be on 'The Two Ronnies' every other week! Pretty good song, too...
20. Take That Look Off Your Face - Marti Webb 3 - another very good singer...this song came from Lloyd-Webber's (and Don Black's) 'Tell Me On A Sunday', but not the best number...
24. Jeans On - David Dundas 3 - Ah! The old Brutus jeans jingle which turned into a big hit! Never really heard much these days...
...and that's about...er, all I know!...mind you, there's several there that I will definitely be downloading (out of curiosity's sake) in the near future...!
Good list!

Yes yes ! OMG ! :o Finally ! For years I have been telling people that one song was 'cloned' from the other ! This is the first time that someone has ever suggested it back ! Thanks ! :D
Of course we are still stuck with the issue of trying to understand all the words, or for that matter, what in hell's name the song is about ! :D
Quoting:10. Soul Makossa - Manu Dibango 4 - cool instrumental, which was much played in the '80's on pirate stations (may have even had a cover version at the time...)End Quote
Yep ! From the Camerounian jazz legend, real name "Emmanuel Dibango N'Djocke". It was a minor hit where I live in the mid-70's. I just looked him up and we share the same birthday - I would prefer to share his talent. Oh well :(
I never knew what it was called, and when I got the net I scoured it for the one lyric I could remember and by some divine providence, there it was ! Artist and name, and like a big gold nugget lying on the ground waiting to be picked up, an "MP3" :P :P :P :P
Quoting:17. Life Is A Minestrone - 10cc 3 - okay song with lyrics that contain some dreadful puns...End Quote
That's what makes it fun :D
Quoting:19. January February - Barbara Dickson 4 - fine singer with a glorious set of pipes...always seemed to be on 'The Two Ronnies' every other week! Pretty good song, too...End Quote
Yep ! Being an Aussie, this is how I knew it, from my weekly diet of Corbett and Barker ;D
Quoting:20. Take That Look Off Your Face - Marti Webb 3 - another very good singer...this song came from Lloyd-Webber's (and Don Black's) 'Tell Me On A Sunday', but not the best number...End Quote
A minor hit where I was - is all I can say !
Quoting:24. Jeans On - David Dundas 3 - Ah! The old Brutus jeans jingle which turned into a big hit! Never really heard much these days...End Quote
It was huge in Aus ! :) Still gets played a lot here :)
