You said it, CF!
1. You're No Good - Linda Ronstadt 3 - a good, though not outstanding performance of the old Betty Everett song (which is much more my thing...)
2. Jackie Blue - Ozark Mountain Daredevils 4 - nice mellow-ish number, rarely heard these days...
3. That's The Way (I Like It) - KC & the Sunshine Band 4 - thumping, lively disco-type shouter...shook a leg to this once or twice...
4. Must Of Got Lost - J Geils Band 3 - not as memorable as their later stuff, but this was good...another one that rarely gets an outing...
5. Why Can't We Be Friends - War 2 - I like a lot of War's output, but good-time number that this is, it has little appeal to me...
6. Sister Golden Hair - America 3 - although they seem to step up a gear in places, it's not the bands' best work, but pleasant enough...
7. Philadelphia Freedom - Elton John 4 - Elt back on form with a 'soulful'-type rouser...
8. Black Water - Doobie Brothers 4 - good vocal interplay on this...
10. How Long - Ace 4 - good mellowed-out affair...for all its alleged overplay, it barely crawled into the Top 20 here...!
11. Dance With Me - Orleans 4 - ultra-commercial without overdoing it...lovely song...
12. Free Bird - 4 - doesn't quite approach 'Alabama', but still a fantastic song despite that...
13. You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker 2 - does tend to go slightly over-the-top with this...song's not really suited for him...
14. Feel Like Makin' Love - Bad Company 4 - the 'softer' side of the band...atmospheric and fine song...
15. Lady Marmalade - Labelle 3 - soulful stomper that had us all reaching for the French dictionary! A bit 'samey' after a while...
16. Pick Up The Pieces - AWB 4 - great funky performance with loads of horns...one of their best...
17. Island Girl - Elton John 2 - never really thought much of this...run-of-the-mill effort...
18. Some Kind Of Wonderful - Grand Funk 4 - another fine song which chugs along rather than goes flat out, for a change...
19. The Hustle - Van McCoy 4 - no matter which dancefloor on Earth you went, there was no escaping this! Insanely catchy number which Van dressed up to the eyeballs with lush orchestration...his finest hour...
20. Let's Do It Again - Staple Singers 2 - ...but not their finest hour! Rather turgid compared to their earlier essential work...
And...gasp!...I've missed one! Yep! I've never possessed a copy of Linda's 'Love Is A Rose'...I do have the other side, 'Heatwave', however...but even then I'll only rate that as a 3...
Plenty fine stuff, CF...
