Five Star - System Addict 2 - this group irritated me big-time...song tries to be cute, but fails...
Whitney Houston - How Will I Know 2 - another 'cutesy' song which teetered on the brink of 'bland' (Whitney's trademark...)
Madonna - Borderline 3 - almost stiffed completely at the first attempt in '84...okay, but not earth-moving...
Billy Ocean - When The Going Gets Tough 3 - not his best, but okay in a strange way...don't mention Boyzone!
Diana Ross - Chain Reaction 3 - Diana harks back to her '60's style (sort-of!)...not the Bee Gees' strongest song either...
Bangles - Manic Monday 4 - good stuff! About the most palatable thing Prince wrote...did he ever record a version? I do hope not...!

Wham - The Edge Of Heaven 2 - not the best of ways to call it a day...rather uninspired...
Madonna - Papa Don't Preach 3 - a bit ho-hum from her...
Steve Winwood - Higher Love 3 - okay, but not his best...a little bit too safe...
Chris De Burgh - Lady In Red 1 - noooooooo...!
Peter Cetera - Glory Of Love 4 - now, that's how you write a ballad, De Burgh...!
Smiths - Panic 4 - good ol' rousing stuff from the lads...
Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died In Your Arms 3 - never really appealed in a big way...okay though...I thought this group were a rap act when I first saw their name...!
Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way 2 - Tsk! Clumsy race through the Thelma Houston classic, leaving not a shred of soul intact...
Eurythmics - Thorn In My Side 3 - slightly more bearable than a lot of their stuff, but still lacks something...
Run DMC - Walk This Way 3 - groundbreaking at the time, with its mix of rap & metal, but hasn't aged too well...first brought Aerosmith's name to mainstream UK attention...
Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian 3 - bit of a lapse from the ladies...
Mel & Kim - Showing Out 2 - nasty dance racket...sounded like it was constructed from one of those cheap Casio keyboard things...
Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong 3 - normally I like a lot of their stuff, but this I can take or leave...
Berlin - Take My Breath Away 3 - pleasant enough ballad, but points deducted for overkill...
Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer 4 - fine ol' rouser which booted them into the big league...
Erasure - Sometimes 4 - good electro-pop, but their best was yet to come...
Kim Wilde - You Keep Me Hangin' On 1 - simply awful! That said, it was her biggest ever hit, so someone must've bought it...! Come on, own up...!
Duran Duran - Notorious 2 - by now, the songs were becoming less memorable...poor effort...
Europe - The Final Countdown 3 - big hair, big song, big production...big overplay too! One of the last-ever songs I heard in the previous millennium (for obvious reasons!)
