Go West - We Close Our Eyes 4 - heh! Used to love this...good dance/pop with a rather odd video...
Phyllis Nelson - Move Closer 3 - one of those 'last grope of the evening' records! Would've been much better if not for that romance-destroying 'thud-thud' beat going through it...
Prince - 1999 3 - another re-issue (and again in, er, 1999!)...never really much cared for the Purple One's stuff...this was kind-of bearable...
Madonna - Material Girl 3 - not as essential as 'Virgin' or 'Groove', but okay...
Philip Bailey & Phil Collins - Easy Lover 4 - good song that's stood up well...how PC managed to squeeze so many hits into this year still amazes me...
Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) 4 - good Hi-NRG rattler which is fondly remembered, if a bit dated...this was one of the first Stock-Aitken-Waterman collaborations to chart, BTW...
Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World 3 - fine at the time, but became so overplayed that it became tiresome...album's good, as a whole...
DeBarge - Rhythm Of The Night 4 - catchy beyond belief! I remember an acquaintance of mine being 'shocked' when I bought this record...('I didn't think you liked ice-cream music...')
USA For Africa - We Are The World 3 - 'Band Aid' US-style...good song on the whole, but points deducted for allowing Dylan to sing...(I do wish he'd blow his nose!)
Katrina And The Waves - Walking On Sunshine (Woo-oooah! - sorry!) 4 - although some don't care much for it, it's still a catchy tune...
Style Council - Walls Come Tumbling Down 2 - not one of their better efforts...did do better...
Madonna - Crazy For You 4 - Madge in slushy mode, but gets away with it without overdoing it...much murdered at karaokes...this originally came from a B-movie entitled 'Vision Quest' (she wasn't in it), but had to be re-titled when Madge became too big to ignore...
Jennifer Rush - The Power Of Love 3 - okay for what it is, but like Phyllis' effort, has that annoying 'thud-thud' going through it...this was apparently done originally by Air Supply...(no, I haven't heard it either!)
Eurythmics - There Must Be An Angel 3 - loved it at the time, but grates now...it must be Annie's voice! Stevie Wonder doing the comb-and-paper bits...
Billy Idol - White Wedding 4 - out of all the original Punk lot, Billy's probably done the best for himself...good belter of a tune, which once again took a re-issue or two to chart!
Wham - I'm Your Man 3 - Georgie seemed to be a bit pre-occupied with 60's music and riffs...another fair effort...
Cure - In Between Days 2 - a bit stodgy...not their best (that goes to 'Close To Me' (and its video!) from the same year)
Madonna - Into The Groove 4 - good dancer from Madge, another of those 'era-defining' songs...
UB40 & Chrissie Hynde - I Got You Babe 2 - turgid claptrap from this pairing...doesn't even come close to S&C...
Baltimora - Tarzan Boy 5 - heh! Guilty pleasure! Memories of a great holiday in Malta...Too catchy for words...A rare example of a Europop holiday record actually doing well in the US...
Huey Lewis & The News - The Power Of Love 3 - probably overkilled due to the film, but as Karen said they've done better...
Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out For A Hero 3 - another re-issue! Originally from 'Footloose', this re-charted due to being used as the theme to a long-forgotten TV serial, 'Cover Up' - rattles along with tons of noise...also murdered frequently at karaokes...
A-ha - Take On Me 4 - still like this...fine song (and the video helped too...) - inexplicably covered (and charted) recently by one of our many boy bands (A1?)...mind you, it was either gonna be them or Westlife...
Feargal Sharkey - A Good Heart 3 - a man with a voice that could frighten wildlife...this was okay, but not #1 material...
Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls 4 - back in the days when their songs actually sounded original...well remembered and still sounds good...
Wham - Last Christmas 3 - preferred the original 'other' side ('Everything She Wants'), but pleasant enough...Boy George quoted some extremely suspect parody words to this (after GM's adventures in the lav), but they're not something I could possibly post!
