1. Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) - Bee Gees 3 - not as strong as a lot of their material from this period
2. Live And Let Die - Macca & Wings 3 - starts and finishes off okay, but is somewhat spoiled by that cod-reggae bit in the middle
3. Wannabe - Spice Girls 1 - no I don't...!
4. Who Can It Be Now - Men At Work 3 - not that bad actually, but also not that great...
5. Big Log - Robert Plant 5 - Ah! Summer of '83...played to death whilst holidaying in Ibiza (before someone invented drum and bass music!)
6. Papa Was A Rollin' Stone - Temptations 5 - stark, menacing piece of work...one of their finest, and sadly not much more finery came after it...
7. Midnight Confessions - Grass Roots 5 - classic! Bubblegum-sounding, but has an edge to it...
8. Blue Velvet - Bobby Vinton 4 - Bobby's voice always irritated me somewhat, but he does manage to pull this one off nicely...
9. Proud Mary - CCR 5 - swamp-rock starts here! You can name virtually anything by CCR and it'll virtually always get top marks with me...!
10. The Honeythief - Hipsway 3 - never heard much these days, strangely enough - rather puzzling, as it is catchy...
11. Always - Atlantic Starr 1 - sorry...just awful!
12. Listen To The Music - Doobie Brothers 4 - Ah! That's better...always a main staple on oldies stations this...hold up well considering it's 30+ years old!
13. Travellin' Man - Rick Nelson 3 - okay if a bit dreary, us lot were more attracted to the flip, "Hello Mary Lou"
14. For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield 4 - another classic! Mind you, that riff's had the life sampled out of it!
15. Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran 4 - never liked this when first released, but it's become one of those defining '80's songs - which is not a bad thing...
16. True Colors - Cyndi Lauper 4 - and the same goes for this...but why Phil took it upon himself to cover it is one of life's great mysteries...
17. I Dig Rock And Roll Music - Peter, Paul & Mary 4 - not their very best, but good stuff...
18. (In) My House - Mary Jane Girls - 3 - I assume this is the track (I hope so!) - trucks along well, but production's a bit dated...
19. Gimme All Your Lovin' - ZZ Top 2 - bit of a plodder...I'm convinced every amateur rawk band's had a crack at this!
20. Breathe Again - Toni Braxton 1 - not my thing!
21. Cocaine - Eric Clapton 4 - stirring version by the man...
22. The Story In Your Eyes - Moody Blues 4 - now there's one I don't hear as often as I should! Good stuff...
23. Mr Bojangles - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band 4 - seems to have become the defining version of Jerry Jeff Walker's song...Robbie Williams? Don't make me laugh...!
24. Fortress Around Your Heart - Sting 3 - a bit ho-hum, not one of his better ones...
25. Linger - Cranberries 3 - was okay when released, but after blanket radio/jukebox play it rapidly became stale...will doubtless sound better if I leave it alone for a bit...

Hold the front page! Karen & I actually disagree on something!

It's "always" been a strange one this - I do think AS were a good band in their earlier days...just too sugary for me!

Would that be public singing, Karen? To my mind, I've never heard any rendition at Karaoke nights...mind you, I'd probably run for the door...!

I can understand how that sugar-coated stuff isn't for you, Paul.  I'm sure most guys feel that way.  I will respect your opinion nonetheless.  :)

I have not sung that one in karaoke clubs mainly because I don't recall ever seeing it available.  Also, it is a song made for both a male and a female, so that makes it a bit difficult.  I enjoy singing it at home, though!  ;)

2. Live And Let Die - Paul McCartney & The Wings  One of his better solo works, but that's not saying much.  3
3. Wannabe - Spice Girls  Not my favorite Spice Girls song.  1
4. Who Can It Be Now? - Men At Work  3
6. Papa Was A Rollin' Stone - Temptations  The absolute best cut of the Temptations' wonderful career.  5
7. Midnight Confessions - Grass Roots  God bless AM pop.  5
8. Blue Velvet - Bobby Vinton  Bobby Vinton was a simpering little puke.  1
9. Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival  Rollin!  4.5
11. Always - Atlantic Starr  I'd make out to it.  But I sure wouldn't want to listen to it under any other circumstances.  1
12. Listen To The Music - Doobie Brothers  I DID listen to the music, and I decided it was boring.  2
13. Travelin' Man - Ricky Nelson  I like Ricky Nelson.  4.5
14. For What It's Worth (Stop, Hey What's That Sound) - Buffalo Springfield  Stone classic.  5
15. Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran  Almost stone classic.  5
16. True Colors - Cyndi Lauper  Not very good, but it beats the Phil Collins version.  2
17. I Dig Rock And Roll Music - Peter, Paul & Mary  Peter Paul and Mary display the fact that they have no idea what rock and roll music even is.  And what was with the needless slam on the Mamas and the Papas?  2
18. My House - The Mary Jane Girls  Bleh.  2.5
19. Gimme All Your Lovin' - ZZ Top  Gotta love the Top.  4
21. Cocaine - Eric Clapton  Clapton's solo career is dull dull dull, but this is the song that comes closest to interesting.  3
23. Mr. Bojangles - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band  Ah, memories.  3
24. Fortress Around Your Heart - Sting  One of Sting's best solo tracks, which again isn't saying much.  3.5
25. Linger - The Cranberries  I'm glad they DIDN'T linger.  This song was boring, and Zombie was wretched.  2

I strongly disagree with this statement!  Peter, Paul & Mary were pioneers of folk-rock music and, along with several other notable acts of the 60's, helped paved the way for artists to come.

I honestly feel they were just 'teasing' their counterparts here.  I never felt the song was a negative reflection on anyone.
