1. A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum - 5, well it was at number one here on the day I was born! Seriously, it's an awesome piece of work - originally contained an extra verse that was cut because it didn't quite "fit in"...
2. Bad Medicine - Bon Jovi - 4, big ol' rawk shouter...
5. Conquistador - Procol Harum - 3, Southend's finest back again - not a patch on "WSOP" but what could be? Good orchestral arrangement on this...
7. & 9. Rosalita & Spirit In The Night - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - 3 for both, I'll probably get shot saying this, but most of Bruce's stuff gets a bit samey after a while...
10. & 11. Train Kept A-Rollin' - Aerosmith & Yardbirds - not familiar with Aerosmith's but I'll give the 'Birds 4 - the version that does it for me is Tiny Bradshaw's original (1951) which was more of a "jump" tune...excellent...
12. Cry - Godley & Creme - 1 - ugh! Probably best known for that video...tune just grates...
15. Keep On Dancing - Gentrys - 4, lo-fi stuff that sounds like it was recorded in a barn (it probably was!) - charted over here via a pointless cover by the Bay City Rollers(!)...
17. I've Never Been To Me - Charlene - 3, quite how this succeeded as well as it did beats me! Still, full marks for slipping "subtle whoring" into the lyrics...
18. Seasons In The Sun - 4, depressing tune, ambiguous lyrics, how could it fail? Another pointless cover version over here in 1999, courtesy of the equally pointless Westlife...
