Those are both good guesses, but I would not consider J. Geils or Billy Joel "Funk" 8)

Good job! Was not sure who would pick up on the second one, since I doubt that most people are even aware that the real title was a mondegreen.

True, for me it is mostly about the style of music, especially the back beat and/or the bass line. That "funky guitar" sound that makes your entire body wanna dance.
And at least one of the songs I listed is only a few years old, showing that "funk is not dead".
2. Prince - Darling Nikki?

I am kinda surprised that the Prince song went as long as it did before being identified. That was such a well known lyric that I was sure it would have been tagged right away.

(the lyrics go "Maybe I'm crazy, maybe you're crazy...")

Almost done, 11 down, 4 left to go.
Crazy is probably my favorite song of the last decade, and I was hoping it would be a return of "R&B" back to it's classic roots. To bad that did not happen.
I am gonna try and put in some clues for the last ones, they are a bit more obscure for the most part (although I thought my George Clinton entry was pretty darned obscure).

It got heavy rotation on MTV over here when it came out. Still never made the charts, though. The song has stuck with me since. ;D

Ahhh, that might be part of it also. I have not really watched MTV since the 1980's. I find the name is ironic, in that you never find music there anymore. To me the channel has become superfluous, and a sad comment on what it once was.

Heck, they could not even bother to have any kind of Anniversary Special when it turned 30, like it was an embarrassment to have shown music videos back when they started.
I think they need to get Randee of the Redwoods back and make him the programming director.

Super Freak- Rick James?
Got it!
The line "New Wave Magazine" has frequently been misheard as "Newsweek Magazine" (which stopped publication in 2012).
And at 2:30 Rick (who is the nephew of The Temptations' bass singer Melvin Franklin) calls for The Temptations to sing (who provided background vocals for the song).
This is also a heavily covered song, the most well known is "U Can't Touch This".

Henk's answer and your hint made the difference really. If not for that, I'd be nowhere near the answer.

Same here Henk, I'm kicking myself. "Super Freak" was a club classic in Liverpool circa 1982/ 83 (in my youth :)).
Along with "In My House" by the Mary Jane Girls, which was written and produced by Rick James.

That's allright, part of this was part of the reason for doing this quiz in the first time.
Only 3 left, and I am kind of surprised at them with the extra hints. Will have to add some more hints shortly I guess.

From your hints, I know #11 is something like "Give it up, tear the roof off", but I don't know if that is the exact title and I don't know the artist. I can hear the song in my head a little, but don't know it well, Funk is not one of my favorite genres.
