Subject: 1972 Audio Quiz - Volume 3 [Answers Revealed]
Written By: Henk on 04/16/11 at 9:55 am
This is Volume 3 of my 1972 quizzes. Getting tired of it yet..?
http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/17/785141/1972.jpg
Inevitably, some artists are represented twice, and the limit = 7 to start with.
This volume may contain more obscure tracks than you're used to,
but that's not to say nobody will recognize them.
I'm undecided about #49. This may be a later rerecording of the song. :-\\
Oh well... Have fun anyway! :)

Some more hints:
You've missed the hardest working man in showbusiness. ...Twice! :o
A sample of one of the songs was used by De La Soul (for 'Say No Go').
There's a collaboration somewhere of a showbizz couple (that Cat don't like) with a showbizz family. On tv, they played neighbors.
There's also a band (OHW) named after the liquid left in the pan after cooking vegetable greens.
And then there's this band that had hits with On The Road Again and Going Up In The Country, teaming up with a brilliant rock'n'roll pianist/singer.
More hints to follow.
Subject: Re: 1972 Audio Quiz - Volume 3 [LIMIT =7]

I've reconsidered. Too much work to think of hints for songs that apparently no one has ever heard of. So here's the answers:
04. Let's Stay Together - Isaac Hayes
05. Cheer - Potliquor
07. We've Got To Get It On Again - Addrisi Brothers
10. King Heroin - James Brown
12. Afro-Strut - The Nite-Liters
13. Sweet Sixteen - B.B. King
15. Thank God For You Baby - PG & E
16. You Are The One - The Sugar Bears
17. Rockin' With The King - Canned Heat with Little Richard
21. Baby, Let Me Take You - Detroit Emeralds
29. This World - Staple Singers
31. Beat Me Daddy, Eight To The Bar - Commander Cody
32. Wholy Holy - Aretha Franklin
34. He's An Indian Cowboy In The Rodeo - Buffy Sainte-Marie
35. Freddie's Dead - Curtis Mayfield
37. The People Tree - Sammy Davis, Jr.
38. I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know - Donny Hathaway
39. What Am I Crying For - Dennis Yost & The Classics IV
40. We Can Make It Together - Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme with The Osmonds
45. If You Let Me - Eddie Kendricks
46. Down To The Nightclub - Tower Of Power
47. Sunday Morning Sunshine - Harry Chapin
50. I Got A Bag Of My Own - James Brown
With four exceptions (#7, #10, #21 and #29) none of these songs broke the US Top 40. None of them made UK Top 40.
And that's it. If anybody knows any one of these songs, let him/her step forward. Or maybe you better don't tell as not to embarrass yourself in public.
Guess I won't be bothering you no more with my 1972 quizzes.

Henk... as loki13 said... please keep going. Your audio quizzes are truly something to look forward to. If you didn't include more obscure songs (as well as well known hits) ... the quiz would be completed in one day (and that wouldn't be worth all your effort).
I also enjoy learning more about the songs that were not as high profile.

Here's a little insight in the lenghts that I go in order to create these quizzes...
If I was to limit myself to songs that I know, this quiz would consist of only five songs.
Yes, that's right: no less than 45 songs in this quiz were obscure to me prior to this quiz.
Not sure if anyone else around here would do the same for their quizzes. :-\\ That's why sometimes I feel a little underappreciated. ;)
But since you all seem to be insisting on me torturing myself even more... ::) :D ;)

I had the feeling that most of the songs would not have made it over to the Nederlands... and that you would have had to research to source many of them. It can be a bit 'hit and miss'. This time some of them were too hard ... but that is not always the case. Most times the mix of easy and harder is pretty much right.
I'm very pleased that you have decided to continue. You are the only member here willing (or able) to make these fine quizzes. I would try if I knew how (technically). It is so much better to hear the tunes rather than just see the lyric!!!
Cheers Henk... :)

I could send you instructions... but I'm warning you: there's a lot of work involved and there's a good chance you need to install additional software on your computer.

Okay...Send them please... if it's not too much trouble...and you have the time. I'll sort through it when I have some quality time and see where it leads me. I trust you are available for fine tuning questions? :)

Henk, I don't think it is underappreciated as much as it is taken for granted and I too am guilty of this. We sit back and wait for a great
quiz of yours to come out and not realize, or properly thank you, for the time and effort that goes into making the quiz. That goes to
all the quiz makers as well. Sometimes we need a swift kick in the pants to realize this and that is what you gave us.
Karma to you sir!

This is a hint for #16, BTW. But it seems like no one ever bought this type of cereal. ???
bought that cereal all the time but I never got the one with the record on it...or if I did I wouldve never played it...

There's also a band (OHW) named after the liquid left in the pan after cooking vegetable greens.
which one was this? :-\\ ???

I'm guessing "Potliquor" (although I'd not heard the terminology in a long time.)
Henk, just to add my http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e4/NETHERLANDS_1_cent.jpg/150px-NETHERLANDS_1_cent.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9f/NETHERLANDS_1_cent-2.jpg/150px-NETHERLANDS_1_cent-2.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e4/NETHERLANDS_1_cent.jpg/150px-NETHERLANDS_1_cent.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9f/NETHERLANDS_1_cent-2.jpg/150px-NETHERLANDS_1_cent-2.jpg, I, too, really appreciate your quizzes. I can only imagine how much work they are. I, personally, am way too technologically deficient to do them myself (and probably a wee bit too lazy as well.) :-\\
I DO hope you continue to do them, if I can be of some assistance to you, somehow, in doing them, please let me know.

OOH coins. But, I believe they are obsolete now because the Netherlands use the Euro. Am I right, Henk?

lol I forgot you liked coins. Yeah, wiki says they use Euro since 2002, but since I know even less about how to break up the Euro dollar into coins, I thought I could at least figure out the old Dutch eqivulant to the U. S. penny.
edit: ok, it was easier to figure out the Euro then I thought...
So here, I'll add my 2 Eurocents... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a7/1_eurocent.gifhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a7/1_eurocent.gif

I've heard the term Potliquor before, it's what's left after boiling collard greens but I never would have
guessed it for a band name even after I read the clue. I went to youtube and played the song and lo
and behold I knew the song but it's one of those songs I didn't know the title to nor the band's name.
If it ever comes up again I will not forget it.

Thanks everyone for the karma and encouraging words! :)
Yep, you're right, Cat - we'll be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the introduction of the Euro in our country shortly (January 1, 2012 to be exact). Though that's made a lot of things easier (like going abroad) it also seemed to have made life a lot more expensive. (But that's just a feeling, apparently...)
Potliquor is indeed the band I was looking for. Pot liquor (or pot likker), also known as collard liquor, is what's left after boiling collard greens, mustard greens or turnip greens.
Potliquor was a Louisiana band, so this might be (more of) a Southern thing, I'm not sure. :-\\
I'll try and leave out the really obscure ones next time. ;)
