Subject: ECC: Pwn Monkey Mash-Up Challenge
Written By: Foo Bar on 05/31/10 at 12:20 am
So I've just discovered (two years behind the times) the delightful Old Nerdy Bastard, which ends with following work of genius, courtesy of the Evolution Control Committee: Pwn Monkey (Jonathan Coulton vs. ... well, everyone). (MP3 link is from the author's blog)
Jonathan Coulton - Code Monkey provides the vocals, and he gets mashed up vs... well, everyone.
Everyone? Well, that sounds like a challenge to me:
(I know I missed a few in the first bunch, but here's a start.)
Foreigner - Juke Box Hero
AC/DC - Back in Black
Walter Murphy - A Fifth of Beethoven
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Go-Go's - We Got The Beat
Rush - Tom Sawyer
Queen - Another One Bites The Dust
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
The Doors - Break on Through
ELO - Don't Bring Me Down
Kermit the Frog - The Rainbow Connection
Heaven 17 - Let Me Go
Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats
(OK, this (around 1:27) is where you folks come in here and fill in the blanks! I'm gonna need a lot of help, on account of I'm only halfway through the song. From about this point, all I know is that we end with...)
Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey

The ones I could figure out right off were
"Groove Me" - King Floyd (HUH! Aww suki suki now)
"More Bounce To The Ounce" - Zapp & Roger
"Funky Worm" - Ohio Players
"The Champ" - The Mohawks
Perhaps "Shake Your Rump" by Beastie Boys but I think that one part is probably sampled from something else :D
And I think that Peanuts theme may be in there.

Yup, sounds like "Linus and Lucy" at 2:28ish.
Also, the chimes from the first seconds of "Born in the USA", Bruce Springsteen, at 2:17-2:20ish.

I hate to say it, but we've been wounded - but not beaten by the Google.
Here is a partial list of the artists and songs used in the Pwn Monkey, 36-song mash-up, as posted by the mash-up's creator himself.
The Quick List (sorry, not enough time for full citations):
Jukebox Hero
AC/DC Back In Black
Unbelievable
Venus, resampled
Fifth of Beethoven
DJ Shadow, Organ Donor
AWB Pick Up The Pieces
Safety Dance
Go-go’s, We Got The Beat
Portishead
Rush, Tom Sawyer
Another One Bites The Dust
Shining Star
Whole Lotta Love
ELO, Don’t Bring Me Down
Rainbow Connection
Funkytown
Heaven 17
Block Rockin’ Beats
Led Zep, Stairway
VU, Venus In Furs

Total: 36 different sources, each tuned to Jonathon’s chord progression. Mash THAT, suckaz.
Our redemption? Finish the job! Here's what I can do off the top of my head, in bold, and I know some of you not-so-old-farts can help finish the parts from decades where my musical clue is weak.
