I guess this is my final offering re. the Alphabet Series. I feel a bit sad about that.
But I still have plenty ideas for new audio quizzes, so don't worry. ;)
Here's letters V to Y revisited. There should be 63 questions in this quiz,
but something's gone wrong and now there are 64. Well, never mind.
The initial limit on this one is OFF. Have fun! :)
Scores so far:
8.0 Paul
7.5 loki 13 / maddog
7.0 karen
6.0 gibbo / mooster / Philip Eno / whistledog
4.0 Badfinger-fan
1.0 little_devil_rider
Hints!
V47. A tough one, I admit. The song & artist are obscure.
Song title is a famous French palace, artist name is a famous US baseball team (albeit slightly misspelt) with no fans around here.
W43. The band (founded as Wildcountry) is named after an American State. Can you tell 'em why they're speeding? ('Cause they don't have a clue!)
W46. He's got two turntables and a microphone.
X54. Group members aren't related, though the name suggests otherwise. They've also been to the best disco in town.
They're from US, and they span about 30 years.
X71. I know it's easier said than done...after all, they're nightbirds. This time though it's all eyes on you.
X76. Oh, it's Level 42 fo' sure. Absolutely. Definitely. 100%.
Y41. A posthumous Top 20 hit for Freddie. He won't have you pull his leg!
Y42. He knows a superfreak or two, and took this song to #13 in US. It's about the two of you.
Y44. The singer knows his classics (especially when composed by Vivaldi). You could also say he's a year-round man.
According to the song (a UK #11) you're up to it.
Y51. I was hoping maybe Kevin would know this one. It wasn't a hit in US or UK.
It's like you're in a perpetual motion for this mixed up red-and-blue band.

I like the little clues here Henk ;D I'm sensing you're enjoying teasing me like this. it must be a Badfinger tune that I don't recognize :-W #51 sounds like the sole surviving member and lead guitarist of Badfinger doing the vocals (Joey Molland) so I'm sure it's Badfinger although Pete Ham did most of the lead vocals but the other lads got to sing a few too. I'm just not sure of the song. Is it cheating if I go listen to my cd's ;D

There is at least one other version that I know of. The Guys & Dolls recorded it too and took it all the way to #1 in Holland. That said, the Guys & Dolls were much more popular in Holland than they were in UK.

It's not "Young Hearts Run Free", but it IS "You Got The Love"! :) Not the original 1986 version (UK #95), not the 1991 remix (UK #4), not the 2006 remix (UK #7), but the 1997 remix (UK #3).
Actually, it's credited as The Source feat. Candi Staton, but I'll give you that. ;)

Hi Henk, Karen beat me to the title. Based on the clues given and the fact you said obscure I had to
find it, you know how I like the obscure. Sure enough I found it.
V47....Versailles (beaten by Karen)......White Soxx?

Again Henk, using you clues (Best Disco In Town) is by the Ritchie Family so my guess would be:
X54....American Generation.....The Ritchie Family?

V47: Versailles is the correct title, but it's not by Damn Yankees.
W43: You picked the wrong state. :( Here's another hint: the band in question scored over 75 hits in country music charts.

That's the one, Kevin! :)
I know little to nothing about White Soxx. They were Frederic Mercier and David Fairstein, and as far as I know this was their only somewhat successful release. It reached #43 in Holland.
Fairstein went on to write songs for Enigma, as I'm told.

Another correct guess. 8)

I guess you've run out of guesses.
Here's the final batch:
W43. The band (founded as Wildcountry) is named after an American State. Can you tell 'em why they're speeding? ('Cause they don't have a clue!)
I'm In A Hurry And Don't Know Why - Alabama
W46. He's got two turntables and a microphone.
Where's It's At - Beck
X71. I know it's easier said than done...after all, they're nightbirds. This time though it's all eyes on you.
Watching You - Shakatak
X76. Oh, it's Level 42 fo' sure. Absolutely. Definitely. 100%.
Guaranteed - Level 42
Y41. A posthumous Top 20 hit for Freddie. He won't have you pull his leg!
You Don't Fool Me - Queen
Y44. The singer knows his classics (especially when composed by Vivaldi). You could also say he's a year-round man.
According to the song (a UK #11) you're up to it.
You're Ready Now - Frankie Valli

Odd.. Usually I get some reactions after I posted the final answers.
Guys...This might've been my last audio quiz ever. Not because of lack of response/interest, but because I'm not sure if I can find a place to host my next quiz.

Just reading them now, Henk.
I can't say that any of the titles rang any bells, although they perhaps could have been worked out from your cryptic clues.
I really hope you find somewhere else to host the quizzes - they are always lots of fun to do. What's the issue with the site you used for this one?

I realize three of them weren't hits at all in UK or US ('Watching You', 'I'm In A Hurry And Don't Know Why' and 'Where It's At'), but the other three ('Guaranteed', 'You Don't Fool Me' and 'You're Ready Now') were Top 20 hits in UK.
Oh well, you can't possibly know every song that made Top 20. ;)

Yeah, I hope so too. The site I'm currently using is Yahoo GeoCities, but Yahoo has announced they'll be shutting them down coming October.
It's hard finding a good replacement (has to be free of charge, and has to accept html files).

I know I recognised Level 42 but I was never a fan. I went out with someone who was though. Also the later Queen stuff was not my 'thing'

GeoCities, so he's facing the same problem.

X71, I should've known the artist. Dang :(
I was going to guess Guranteed for the Level 42 song. Don't know why I didn't
Geocities is going bye bye yes. There aren't many free websites out there left that were as good as Geocities. There is Angelfire, but unless you pay, it's riddled with pop up advertisements when you load pages.
I once hosted a quiz I did here from a MySpace page, and it worked for a bit until MySpace deleted my profile because I did that :o LOL
