This particular song wasn't a big hit in UK (only #32), and did nothing in US. So that might explain...

Strangely I assumed that because they are so well known... they would be top 10's. I can;t seem to find anything that supports that assumption. Mac had such a huge album with Rumours that "You Make Lovin' Fun" was played a lot ...but I don't think it made top 50.
I remember "You Can Leave Your Hat On" was also played al ot....but maybe I just watched the movie 9 1/2 weeks too many times? ::)

#24 The Ronettes
No, not the Ronettes I'm afraid. A good guess though, because they did the original version of this song.
The song title is an adaptation of an ancient Roman adage, ascribed to Julius Caesar himself.

The hints are out (Not that I'm expecting much of it). I've also removed the limit.
Hints!
03. A song that did nothing in US, and only got to #32 in UK, about how the light of day appears when you are near (and stuff like that).
10. A fishy band with a song that hit #7 in UK in 2004, about parting and saying goodbye (and stuff like that).

14. I doubt any of you know this song. It only reached #48 in US, and did nothing in UK.
24. A UK #32 for this duo (living in a shell..?). Perhaps they're feeling guilty for adapting an ancient Roman adage (ascribed to Julius Caesar).
The original version of this song was sung by the Ronettes, btw.
29. Why wasn't this song a hit (only #85 in US)? I mean, nobody does it better...

Ah, well...I don't think you're gonna get the rest. I don't blame you - these are indeed (pretty) obscure songs.
So here's the answers:
10. A fishy band with a song that hit #7 in UK in 2004, about parting and saying goodbye (and stuff like that).
You're Gone - Marillion
11. This song (by a British singer who died in 2003) wasn't a hit in UK and US, so you're wasting your time looking for clues..
You Can Have It (Take My Heart) - Robert Palmer
12. Neither the original version (by Chris Bell) nor this cover version (by a gathering of artists from the 4ad record label) was a hit in UK or US.
It's about you and a very close relative.
You And Your Sister - This Mortal Coil
14. I doubt any of you know this song. It only reached #48 in US, and did nothing in UK.
You Don't Know What You Mean To Me - Sam & Dave
24. A UK #32 for this duo (living in a shell..?). Perhaps they're feeling guilty for adapting an ancient Roman adage (ascribed to Julius Caesar).
The original version of this song was sung by the Ronettes, btw.
You Came, You Saw, You Conquered - The Pearls
29. Why wasn't this song a hit (only #85 in US)? I mean, nobody does it better...
You Know What To Do - Carly Simon
Now there's only one letter left in the alphabet... :\'(

I don't blame you for thinking so. After all, the 1980's were their most successful era.
Rather surprisingly, they've scored 3 Top 20 hits in UK since 2004.
