Written By: Henk on 08/15/07 at 1:36 pm

This must be your lucky day...

'cause this time you get two quizzes for the price of one. :)

http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/17/785141/NumberSevenLogo.jpg                               http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/17/785141/1977Logo.jpg

A QUIZ WITH SONGS PEAKING AT#7 IN DUTCH TOP 40 .... and .... A QUIZ WITH SONGS FROM 1977 (DUTCH TOP 40).

I couldn't choose, so I decided to post them both.
Both quizzes contain 7 x 7 = 49 songs. :D

The total limit for the combined quizzes is now OFF.

I think I've provided in your luck already...so get on with it.

Wonderful quiz Henk :)

02 | So in Love - Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
11 | Waiting Game - Swing Out Sister
21 | It's Raining - Shakin' Stevens
24 | Wonderful Life - Black
29 | If it Happens Again - UB40
32 | Move Your Feet - Junior Senior
44 | Town Called Malice - The Jam

Y'know something weird?  That Junior Senior track (to my knowledge) never charted in Canada, but I hear it on the radio all the time.  Everywhere I go, I hear it atleast once a day, and I never seem to get sick of it

Has this quiz got anything to do with sevens at all?  ;)

Regardless, it's a great effort as ever, Henk...

#7's section...

#3. 'The Wind Cries Mary' - Jimi Hendrix Experience
#7. 'In The Name Of Love' - Sharon Redd
#8. 'Help Yourself' - Tom Jones
#9. 'Baby Talk' - Alisha
#10. 'Attention To Me' - Nolans
#12. 'I'm Gonna Love You Too' - Blondie (strangely never released as a single here, but a very popular track from a very popular album!)
#13. 'Going Up The Country' - Canned Heat

15. Got To Give It Up - Marvin Gaye

Somehow I figured you'd go for 1977... When I was working on this quiz, I found out that 1977 actually wasn't that bad at all. 8)
In fact, a song like "Turn To Stone" sounds just as good today as it did back in the 1970s.

You've got 'em all correct, btw.  :)

It's a dirty job... ;)

#3. 'The Wind Cries Mary' - Jimi Hendrix Experience

Hats off once again, Paul. 8)

I did notice that this Blondie song hadn't made UK Top 40, but I didn't know it wasn't released as a single at all...Very strange.
Good job on the Alisha song as well...that didn't make UK Top 40 either, if I'm correct.

Just a hunch...

I did notice that this Blondie song hadn't made UK Top 40, but I didn't know it wasn't released as a single at all...Very strange.

An unprecedented (for the time) four singles were lifted off 'Parallel Lines' in Britain, but not this song...

Good job on the Alisha song as well...that didn't make UK Top 40 either, if I'm correct.

Ran out of steam sixty places lower than her Dutch peak...'huge in the clubs' though (as I seem to be fond of saying!)

...not to mention "Koochie Koo". :P

That I've not heard...is this a bad thing?

I remember them doing Eurovision many years ago (rather unsuccessfully!)

That I've not heard...is this a bad thing?

It's probably better best forgotten. Even we (i.e the Dutch) didn't think much of it (it peaked at #24, with only 4 weeks in chart).

I remember them doing Eurovision many years ago (rather unsuccessfully!)

Sad but true...

In 1978 they entered for Luxembourg (go figure!) with "Parlez-Vous Français?" . Well, they obviously didn't...
Still, they ended up in...7th place. :o What a coincidence. (It got stuck in Dutch bubbling under section, btw)

Did I mention "Sorry I'm a Lady" also was a #1 hit over here...? ???

Correct. I can tell you that the artists were more popular in the 1960s. They split up in 1967, but briefly reunited in 1976/1977.

After giving my 'PopArt' CD a listen, I now realize it's 'Domino Dancing', which if I remember correctly was also their last ever US Top 40 hit

On the Numbers 7 quiz...

"No Regrets" is by The Walker Brothers

I believe "Oh Boy" was recorded by Brotherhood of Man, though I've not actually heard that version.

Both guesses are incorrect, I'm afraid... :(
#46 is a solo artist, if that's any help. Her real name is Jacqueline McKinnon.
#47 is probably the most obscure song in this quiz (along with #06 and #29, I think).

Looks like I have to bring out the hints...

#7. 'Red Light Spells Danger' - Billy Ocean (there's probably a few people here who regard him only as an 80s artist!)
#17. 'Something Better Change' - Stranglers

Three more correct answers, Paul. :)

To be honest, I'd completely forgotten about this gem by Billy Ocean (although it hit #12 in our charts), but I do remember "Love Really Hurts Without You".  8)

And I notice you're saving best (#37) for last... ::)

He made some good stuff around that time (all in a sort-of 'mock' Motown manner), before dropping off-radar...

I remember being mildly surprised when 'European/African/Caribbean Queen' broke through in 1984...

And I notice you're saving best (#37) for last... ::)

I thought I'd be safe as I thought the record came from the following year (when it had its British success!), but I should have known!  ::)

Okay, here I am...

#7s

#23. 'Daddy Cool/The Girl Can't Help It' - Darts
#36. 'Rosie' - Don Partridge (the only 'one man band' to have charted anywhere...unless there's another!)

Impressive...but not all are correct.

#46 isn't Tina Charles. Although it sounds much like her, it's actually Jacqueline McKinnon. ...Who?

And #47 is incorrect too. The artist(s) I'm looking for is (are) too obscure I'm afraid. This wasn't a hit in UK or US.
