CLICK LOGO TO START QUIZ

Yes, this quiz is stuffed with kids! All artists (with one or two exceptions) in this quiz were under 17 when their songs hit the charts. Can you give me the names and titles please?

And as this is the holiday season...
Bonus points if you can give me their age too, give or take a year. For bands and the like an age range will suffice.
Please note that there's no bonus points to be won for numbers 21 and 24.
Also bonus points if you can tell me which performers are no longer alive (there's three that I know of).
There's an extra 5 bonus points and a life long supply of karamel sutra if you can answer #16...

As always...please no cheating. Good luck and enjoy! :)

Hints!
01. He's a son of Geraldine "Can't Fake The Feeling" Hunt, and this song hit #5 in US Club Play Singles chart in 1979.
02. Cleopatra, with their 1998 UK #3 hit single. It hit #26 in US.

16. You may not know their names, but you've seen them dance in the Kaoma video! Their dance was all the rage in 1989.
24. "Stand By Me" performed by four kids (Ms Lady, J-Man, Shorty and BJ). It peaked at #12 in UK and at #82 in US.
28. Not a hit record in UK or US, but the artist is Jeremy Jackson.

Three correct answers, Philip, but you're a tad off with the ages.

Three correct answers, Philip, but you're a tad off with the ages.
Helen Shapiro was still at school at the time of recording, so I say around 15 years old

Vanessa Paradis was indeed 14 years old. :)

That would be spot-on, so another bonus point well deserved.

Hi Henk...marvellous stuff as always (though I must admit a lot of these are a bit 'newfangled' for me!  :-\\)

However, I shall play it safe with these four...

#20. 'I Will Follow Him' - Little Peggy March
(She was 15 when this reached #1 in the US making her the youngest solo female act to hit the top there...a record which still stands, I think...)

(Modified to add the word 'female', before any nit-pickers start chasing me!)

#31. 'I'm Sorry' - Brenda Lee
(Also 15 at the time and she held the above record until Peggy came along...)

#32. 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love' - Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers
(Frankie was 13 at the time and sadly died of a drug overdose 12 years later...)

#33. 'Ma He's Making Eyes At Me' - Lena Zavaroni
(Should a 10 year old be singing this sort of stuff?  :o  Sadly, she's also dead...an anorexia victim)

Subject: Re: K is for....Kids' Stuff

Written By: Philip Eno on 12/08/06 at 2:11 pm

Ok then, Little Jimmy Osmond was about 9 years old?

Needless to say these are all correct, Paul. :) You got the ages correct too, and spotted two of the three deceased artists.

Lena Zavaroni won a contest, as I understand it. ??? Though I think it's a great song it never made it to the charts over here.

Yes, she did...the contest was a hugely popular (at the time) British TV talent show called 'Opportunity Knocks' (which was also won by the group Our Kid in another year, which you had on one of your recent quizzes...)

The song itself is very old, dating back to the 1920's...

One-fifth of Musical Youth is no longer with us (but that's probably not the answer Henk's looking for...)

23. Ben - Michael Jackson (13)

And Michael Jackson's career is officially dead (but that's probably not the answer Henk wants either!  ;))

30 - Hold Me - Menudo (their only chart single in America)

Patrick Waite died in police custody in 1993. I believe his heart condition was rare and hereditary, though - no link to any possible drug abuse.

#35 is indeed Jump To The Beat by Stacy Lattisaw, but she was actually even younger than 16.
As for #36: correct on the title, but it's not Jimmy Osmond.

Crush On You - yes, Jets - no, so only half a pint point.

29. Leave/Get Out - JoJo, who my son says was either 14 or 15 at the time

Your son's about right. According to my information, Joanna "JoJo" Levesque was born December 20, 1990, which would make her only 13 at the time of her chart entry. Still - a bonus point coming your way.

You're correct on all titles and artists, Gwen, and you've also deserved one bonus point for Jordy.

Immature were a little bit older when Never Lie was in the charts, and Monica was younger. As for A.B.C.... I think they were all older than that, but I'm not sure. I could only find two DOB's, so I know at least two of the band members were older than 10. Maybe I shouldn't be giving any bonus points on that question, 'cause I have no way of checking/knowing the right answer.

I thought you would have a go at #36 (the artist)... :-\\

"The instrumental" would be #12, I assume... I think you're about the only person old enough to remember it (no offense!). It wasn't a big UK hit (reaching only #36, if I'm correct), but it was big in The Netherlands (#5, and 26 weeks in chart). The artists were/are Danish. There are lyrics to the tune, but I could only find the German version (that's why I didn't use that part).

Well, if he won't, I will...it's Eddie Hodges (a noted child actor who was 14 or thereabouts at the time...)

This song was originally performed by The Isley Brothers (of all people)...

I could go wallowing around in the back room looking for this (I'm sure it's in there somewhere), but I'm pretty confident from the clues that it's 'Banjo Boy' by Jan & Kjeld...

As for their ages, not really sure...I'll guess 13, 14...something like that...

It's one of those songs that I remember well from my childhood, although it was released six years before I was born.
Jan & Kjeld (Wennick) were born on July 27, 1946 and March 3, 1944 respectively, so they were actually about 13/14 and 16 - but I'll give you the bonus point anyway. ;)

It's gotta be Aaron Carter.  I know he had an international hit with it

Right you are. :) Aaron Carter is of course a younger brother of Nick Carter, one of the Backstreet Boys.

For the record: the Jets never had a hit with "Crush On You" in The Netherlands. In fact, they never had any hit at all.

Bros

Five Star... ::)

Swiftly back on topic, you may have to provide some clues on the remainder, Henk...

#22 is Rachel Sweet.  Don't know the song, but a guess would be "Foolin' Around"?

Rachel Sweet it is, but it's not that song. It's a four letter word, and it's spelled out.

#28 | Jeremy Jackson?

Also correct. I was a bit surprised to see this song wasn't a hit in US or UK.

5 | Lil' Bow Wow (I think he was 14)

You're one year off (he was 13), so a bonus point for you. This was a hit before "Bow Wow (That's My Name)". Any suggestions? ???

Chris Kelly and Chris Smith were born on May 1, 1978 and January 10, 1979 respectively. I'm sure "Jump" was a US hit in 1992, so they were both indeed about 13 at the time.

Yeah.. what Beth said.

What Jason said. Don't tell me you've never heard of Aaron Carter.

Of course I've heard of Aaron Carter. I just don't know any songs by him.

Well your clue for #2 suggests it must be the girl (sister) group Cleopatra....however I'm afraid I have absolutely no recollection of the song and no idea how old the girls were!

...and yet it was a UK #3.

At least you got the group name, and with that, also half of the song title. :)

24. Stand By Me?  And I'm guessing they were all either 14 or 15.

2. Cleopatra coming at ya - they were pretty young as I recall...I think it was three sisters age range of 7 - 12 or so.  I don't actually recall, but it was a catchy tune.

24. the song is Stand by Me (yeah that wasn't real tough) - have no idea any of the rest.

Correct on the title. :) I can't give you a bonus point for the ages, though, 'cause I don't know them myself (can't find any DOB's or even their real names.. :-\\)

They were pretty young, yes, but not that young, so no bonus point. Still looking for the title of the song though... ::)

Unfortunately, Sister Morphine just beat you to it. :(

I must have missed this... :-[

The title is B-A-B-Y, a cover of the old Carla Thomas soul number...

I'm guessing that Rachel was about 14-15 when she recorded this...

Both the title and the age are correct, Paul. :)

If that's it for you, I'm gonna reveal the remaining answers... I sure could do with a little help from DJ Midas here. :-\\
