Howard stole it from a great comedy. I thought it was immensely popular, but no one seems to be getting it. It was said by a guy in a deep voice; the man was a sidekick.

In a May 2002 interview with Wizard, Matt Groening mentioned that "the name that I have for Comic Book Guy is Louis Lane." Finally, in the February 6, 2005 episode, "Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass," CBG nonchalantly told Ned Flanders, "My name is Jeff Albertson, but everyone calls me 'Comic Book Guy'." Showrunner Al Jean remarked, "That was specifically done to make people really mad. We just tried to pick a generic name.
