Subject: Your Hit Parade-Done

Written By: CatwomanofV on 11/18/05 at 1:19 pm

There are songs from the 1940s.  None are obscure (at least I don't think they are) and a couple of the artists are the same. Since this is a short quiz, only 2 answer limit (for now).
I'll try this for a bit and if no one gets these two, I will add hints.

1. Loki13 Spent each dime I could afford. Sentimental Journey-Doris Day/Les Brown

2. Loki13 Workin' for the Yankee dollar. Rum & Coca Cola-The Andrews Sisters

3. Paul The world will always welcome lovers. As Time Goes By-Dooley Wilson (one of my favs)

4. Gambo Empty pockets don

Hi Cat

#1 I think is Sentimental Journey but by whom,
are you looking for Doris day, Les Brown or Renee Olstead?

#2 is Rum And Coca-Cola by the Andrews Sister

Right on both accounts (and I was looking for Doris Day/Les Brown.  FYI, my step-father used to play drums for Les Brown.)

That is so cool, when i was taking drum lessons as a teen
it was Les Brown's music I would try to play.I loved that
style.

My step-father played with him BEFORE it was Les Brown and his Band of Renowned. It was Les Brown's Blue Devils-that's going WAY back. But, like Les Brown, my step-father is no longer with us.  :\'( :\'(  (Sorry to be getting off-topic a bit-had to brag.  ;) )

Great quiz!!!  These are all great songs.

Thanks. I don't recall anyone doing a quiz with all these "old time" songs before so I thought I would give it a shot.

Wonderful stuff, Cat...and fascinating to learn about your step-dad's time with Les Brown...

#3. 'As Time Goes By' - Dooley Wilson (from the most ill-quoted movie of all time, 'Casablanca'...'Play It Again, Sam' (where this song comes in) is never uttered...!)

#10. 'Swinging On A Star' - That man Crosby again...

Thanks-and you're right on both of them.

#8 Stormy Weather - Lena Horne

That's it. 1/2 point because Tomario got the song first.

I'll update the list tomorrow.

With pleasure, it's I'll Be Seeing You.  I knew it as soon as I saw it but I couldn't think of the name of the woman who sang it in the movie.  Did Bing Crosby ever sing it?

Right song but wrong artist. Think Big Band.
