3 for 3 philbo, well done.
I enjoyed your "Final Countdown" parody as well, although I suspect it was written before Carol Vorderman's style makeover from "frumpish apparel" to leather trousers etc. which I find rather appealing....

Hello.
#1 appears to be "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears (though I don't get the Presbyterian clue)

Spot on Claude Prez!
I shoehorned the Presbyterians bit in because it's a fairly well known anagram of "Britney Spears".

Picky thing! ;D
Is #3 London Calling - The Clash ??
Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz
These types of quizzes are extremely unfair to those of us who can just about manage the Daily Mirror 'quickie' crossword without our brains exploding...
That said...
#6. Soul (Sole!) Man - Sam And Dave
#8. The Union Of The Snake - Duran Duran
Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz
Finally thought of it!
#17 Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC

hiya jaytee - yes it is!
sorry for appearing picky on the "Rockin' Robin" clue, it's just that I'd put the song title down as (6,5) so that might have confused some people.

I worked out that Boney M fitted the clue but the song I am thinking of doesn't seem their style. The one I know is sort of rockabilly ish (or possibly doowop) with harmonising vocals.

aah yes - I believe you're thinking of a song of the same title by a different band. The UK doo-wop revival group Darts had a hit in 1977 (I think) with their own song called "Daddy Cool". The Boney M one was more disco (obviously!) - recently used on a TV advert for the Vauxhall Zafira, if you saw that...

Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz
Must admit, I googled this one, but #20 is "The size of a cow" by The Wonder Stuff (at least, I had a feeling that was going to be the song title, and couldn't help but look it up)

Correct philbo! But how on earth did you google it - just to get the band name I guess?
Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz
Have two more:-
#7 This Charming Man - The Smiths
#19 Common People - Pulp

Well, the dimensions and horns/tail kind of gave the title away - I'd never heard of the song, but it was worth a look, anyway.
...and I think lesley's finished it off, too ;-)

Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz - all done
Yes, I enjoyed doing mine, too: they're kind of fun to work out as well.
Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz - all done
Hi Maddog
I love the cryptic clues. My little brain was working overtime last night! ;D I'd love to see you and Philbo do more of them.
Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz - all done
This is more my sort of quiz I think. I've even started thinking up cryptic clues as I listen to the radio in the car.
Subject: Re: maddog's Cryptic Quiz - all done
Well, philbo appears to have started something here....I don't need much encouragement so I'll be posting my cryptic quiz #2 shortly. karen - look forward to seeing yours too!
