I've been puzzling over the clues since you set this quiz. I had worked out that it was most likely "_ of the _" and then the 'rocky' bit gave me the rest. The answer just sort of popped into my head! I have heard of a Tiger's Eye but didn't know it was from a form of asbestos.

...the strands that you can see inside the stone are asbestos: IMO it's one of the most beautiful stones, especially semi-precious ones.

It was one of my Grandma's favourites too
Subject: Re: A Cryptic Quiz - [s]three[/s] two left
There's a bit of a clue to one of the remaining ones in one of today's parodies... well there's actually the answer to one of the two remaining :-)
Subject: Re: A Cryptic Quiz - [s]three[/s] two left
This came to me as I was driving through the Shropshire countryside this afternoon in one of those flashes of inspiration that keep me coming back to this board....
#8 is Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil
I had been racking my brains on this one for any song I could remember by Wishbone Ash 'cos they fitted the 8,3 pattern!
