Your reply made me laugh ! I was hoping for a different clue and am struggling to think of dead male musicians with good voices.
I am going to suggest Kurt Cobain....! ???

C'ya soon and Frankie Lyman is too early and not vocally brilliant, Minnie Ripperton was but her voice tends to irritate (In my opinion of course) but then so does whitney's and Mariah's eeeeyooouuwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?
So three questions :
1. Does C'ya soon mean you are leaving/ have left ?
2. Did you send the message twice to get our attention, as we were arguing in class ?
3. Will you give us another clue, please ?

Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?
Hey,
I'm a busy bee at the mo so here's some quick answers and a question
not Falco
Not Michael Hutchence
Not John Lennon
Not Buddy Holly too early
He was an 80's vocalist with a band
:) :-*
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?
Paul Young (of Mike & The Mechanics)?
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?
Most of the people I would have suggested have already been said ...
Unless the answer is Freddie Mercury, although his career wasn't exactly 'brief'?
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?
Stuart Adamson of Big Country?
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?
Some fab, sorely missed musos there but not the right one yet.
He had shortish very dark, wavy hair. He filled in once and mimed very badly on the live music show 'The Tube'. He could hit some mega high notes. His name was of a somewhat gaelic persuasion!!! And for my fellow girlies-Boy was he cute :-* :-* :-* :-* ;D
In addition he had an incredibly high voice range and was popular in the early 80's 'New Romantic' scene.

Bon Scott?
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?CLUES AT BOTTOM
Sorry Astral. I don't think anyone knows this. ??? Either this person is really obscure, or our definition of a genius is different to yours. ;D
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?CLUES AT BOTTOM
Hey guys, you're back! I'm so touched!!! :-*
Ok by Gaelic I mean he (or at least his name) is Scottish. I apologise if he may be obscure outside of UK, I'm not sure.
His band had four hits that I am aware of (if u count that one was a double a side then 5) The one he performed on 'The Tube' was called 'Those First Impressions' though that wasn't his biggest UK hit.
I think his death was by commiting suicide, sadly, what a waste!!!!! :'( :'(
:'(
Subject: Re: Who's The Deceased Genius?CLUES AT BOTTOM
Those First Impressions is an Associates song...
(WHISPERS: Is it Billy McKenzie from The Associates?)

:-* back. Not a genius, I've just got so many names floating around in my head, and that happened to be one of them.
He did indeed have a great voice.
Quoted from Allmusic.
By 1995, Mackenzie found himself financially bankrupt. Nude Records became interested in Mackenzie , who signed a deal with them for another solo record. He also signed a publishing deal with Sony, with the wheels set in motion for Mackenzie to make another return. Four days after inking the publishing deal, he died from an overdose of prescription drugs while inside the shed of his father's Auchterhouse cottage. The culmination of his nagging depression and looming sadness since the death of his mother pushed him to his breaking point. He might not have reached 40 years of age, but there's little denying that he did enough living to fill several normal life spans.
