Subject: mixed unusual lyrics quiz (now with clues!)

Written By: Zella on 05/28/02 at 09:06 p.m.

1. First of all, I can think of three 70s songs that use the word "betcha." One is pretty obvious, can anyone identify the other two? Or think of some more?

One of the three has already been identified below by Garfield; of the remaining:  one is by a bubble gum group, the other is a minor top 100 song from 1974 (by a group that had a big hit in 1971) about a supernatural creature.

Secondly, since FBVP opened up the use of "album cuts" with his lyric from a Band on the Run song....  the following were not on singles; the first definately not--the second not to my knowlege....  ;)

2. pressurize this was identified below by Gambo

3. roughneck

clue: the singer of #3 once belonged (for a short time) to the band in #2.

Yes, that was the easy one I was thinking of. I know of at least two others (in the lyrics, but not the title). There could even be more, I would think...

No.

To my knowlege, Verden Allen never recorded anything. Altho' he sang lead on one of the Mott songs... (Soft Ground).

Is #3 "Country Comes To Town" by Toby Keith?

Just a reminder Zella, that #3 is still not yet officially solved. And Gambo took a stab at it (no pun intended). Not rushing, am I? ;)

The other song I can think of with the word "Betcha" in the title is Led Zep's "We're Gonna Groove".

Otherwise... oh, and Def Lep's "Rock Of Ages". Are these both 70s?

It may not be the one Zella's looking for, but John Cougar Mellencamp (then just John Cougar) released "I Need a Lover" in 1979. At the end, he shouts "you betcha'".

Good call, JC, I never thought of that one. That's probably the one, now you mention it.

No, those were not what I was thinking of. Both were 70s "pop songs." Would you like some more clues? :)
