Here is a short lyrics quiz with songs of the 1960s. (Note: those with X's have already been identified).
X1. Baby let your hair hang down
X2. I don't want you to tell me just what you intend to do now
X3. Listen to the music of the traffic in the city
X4. In school they all stop and stare
5. Bands of motorcyclists are riding through the park
X6. There was nobody -- not a soul around
X7. Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
X8. Or she won't stay for very long, if at all
X9. In the nick of time a hero arose
X10. Tell her that I'm well and feeling fine

1. Walk Right In - The Brothers 4
7. The Zombies - She's Not There
That'll do for now, given the conciseness of the quiz.

Aghh, I should have checked some better song listings. I knew the title, I just couldn't remember the artist, so I looked it up :-/

Number 5? It's off somewhere being antipodal. (I can't figure that one out either.)
Subject: Re: Short 60s lyrics quiz
Zella, every time I see your name, I want to pull a Stanley and start shouting: "Zella! Zeeeelllllllllllllaaaaaaa!!!!!
My maiden name being Kowalski, and all! ;)
Subject: Re: Short 60s lyrics quiz
Since no one has gotten #5, I will now quote the next line:
"Diggin' girls in mini skirts and tryin' to win their hearts"
(Sorry, "G," but that line won't show up in Google either ;) )

Lyric #5 is still waiting patiently for someone to give it it's identity. :'(

Number five is still driving me crazy. I think I'm about ready to throw in the towel, Zella. How about another clue?

Okay. If I recall correctly, the first line of the song is:
"The temperature is rising and excitement fills the air..."
The artist had a string of hits in the 60s and 70s.

Sorry Zella. I still don't have a clue. How about giving the crew another clue? ;)

Okay, the second line is:
"Girls buy new bikinis and beauticians dye their hair..."
The song was out in 1969 and was very popular. I don't know how high it got on the charts, but I remember hearing it a lot, and that was before I was seriously listening to radio.

Is it a song about hot pants?

No. It's actually a very shallow, sexist song about how people have to look good externally to impress the opposite sex. But, hey, it has a catchy tune! ;)
