With its bright yellow wing-flashes and face painted black, white and red, the goldfinch is one of our most colourful birds.
But their beauty was their downfall in Victorian times when goldfinches were popular cage birds and were caught using limed twigs, nets, and cages known as chardonneret traps….from the French name for the bird.

Golden Orioles look as exotic as they sound. The male is bright yellow with black wings and a reddish bill. The female is more greenish, but both are very hard to see among the fluttering leaves. There are fewer than ten pairs of Golden orioles in the UK in any year.

Buzzards are now Britain’s most common bird of prey, outnumbering even kestrel and sparrowhawk. They’re a regular sight in town, soaring over built-up areas or sitting on fence-posts along main roads.

That looks more like a hawk than a buzzard, note the feathered head, which buzzards usually lack (the feathers that is)

Your are right that is a hawk, as of this picture from National Geographic
http://images.nationalgeographic.com/wpf/media-live/photos/000/006/cache/red-tailed-hawk_681_600x450.jpg
Looks like the BBC have got it wrong!
All in all, it is still a wonderful picture.

Just one morning up on the border mountains. It looked like the mountain had a crater spilling fog hillside down to blur the world.

True Cat, I took that shot from our shore lake camp, early morning. The fog use to sprout and go up from France and cover up the borderline ridge as the day forwards.
You can see the rim over which the clouds and fog sneak in Spain. :)
An astonishingly beautiful spectacle a nature lover and spotter mustn't fail any way ;)

A giant flower, said to be one of the world's oldest and largest species, has bloomed at a Tokyo park for the first time in five years, it's reported.
The 2-metre-high (6.5 feet) Titan arum rarely flowers and is notoriously difficult to propagate. The Jindai botanical gardens in the city of Chofu have extended their opening hours especially to allow hundreds of visitors to see the flower, which only blooms for one or two days, Japan's Kyodo News Service reports.
