Yeah that looks like around 1988 to me too. A sign that you were around for those times if you can pinpoint with closer certainty the year a photo was taken by just looking at the fashions and hairstlyes.

Actually, that is an Air Force uniform. I could say that it was a Halloween costume but doubt anyone would believe me. ;)

I have a couple I was able to dig up. Riding my bike and playing video games were my favorite things to do back in the day. Both of these are probably 84-85ish
Here I am ripping it up on my BMX. Blue mag wheels scream 80s. I don't know about you guys, but dirtbikes were huge when I was a kid

Is it hard to see, or you can't see it at all? They are really blurry because I don't have a scanner and I used a digital camera to capture the images.

Great pictures, Krakboi. It's wonderful to see a touch of Americana in each one (I used to have a Raleigh bike when BMXs were huge).
Those hand-held games were brilliant. I remember that shoot-em-up game where you were shooting upwards into the sky. Very Tron-like but I forgotten what it was called.

My super deluxe chest wig had not yet arrived...14 years old...
Looking sharp at 19 in my leather jacket, but what, oh what did I do to my hair?!! (highlights, if you must know, but they didn't scan too well...) And who chose those curtains?!! Yeuch!

I had the black with grey zippers, the grey with black zippers and the ones with the zippers down the legs. They were black and you unzipped them they were red inside. This was in 1984, during the Breakdancing fad.

Thanks Howard...Still am ;D I'll have to find a more recent one to post of me. I still look pretty much the same. The hair is longer and quite a bit of artwork etched into my skin, that's all.
My dad comes to visit me and shakes his head "You're 37 years old, haven't outgrown that noise yet? I'm so glad you're not still under my roof." ROTFLMAO!!!! I listen to a lot of stuff except rap/hip hop, but the metal is my main mode of escape. I'm still stuck in the 80's and since finding this board, no longer ashamed of it :D

That's a great photo MetalManiac. Love the axe man. Like the jeans too, i still have a few pairs that look all ripped like that, but i haven't worn them for almost 6 months because i got a few new pairs recently. Hard to get the older looking slim 80s cut of jeans, but over here Lee have just released these Stovepipe Stretch Jeans. Seems like the 80s rocker look is experiencing a bit of a revival over here in Oz. Even Levis has released a similar pair called Tuff Skinny Jeans. I'm lovin it because i can get a decent pair of jeans again after 15 or so years. No trying on a supposed "slim fit" pair & having them look all loose & baggy. Anyhow enough about jeans, never change dude. You never grow out of metal. I'll never grow out of it. I'm still stuck in the 80s & i'm proud of it, never feel emabarrased, never. The 80s was THE decade for metal, real metal i mean. None of this crossover sh!t & cross polanisation of styles. Horns up dude. \m/

Hey Cafe80's...Horns Up dude! Thanks. Those were my favourite ripped jeans-they tore on their own with little help from me. Unfortunately, they're 3 sizes too small for me now and so badly ripped I had to wear biker shorts under them. Have tried in vain to replicate them but Levis suck now...they don't wear through like they used to, let alone try to cut up with a razor...Can't see it in that photo but I put 2 eyelets thought the right pocket and hung two long strands of leather with a BC Rich guitar charm hanging off each one...a warlock and a bich.
I did take a razor so most of my Levis but theyr'e not the same. Funny that I get the strangest looks. Yeah, I'm a rock & roll relic LOL! Wouldn't have it any other way.
No, you never do grow out of metal, least those of us that were true metal heads. It's not a fashion statement, it's a way of life-and one that I miss very much.Right with ya on the 80's...they rocked! It's just not the same these days. Wonder if BC Rich can make me a coffin with their logo on it for when my time comes? I wanna be buried in a Warlock! HA! ;D

I'll see if i can scan a grade 6 photo that's stuck on the the front of my end of year graduation year book from 1989. The photo is of my whole class, but it's pretty obvious which one is me in the photo. Everyone else is in tracksuits & K-Mart style clothing & i'm the only one in tight jeans a denim jacket & a Skid Row shirt with the photo from the self titled album cover on the front & Youth Gone Wild on the back. Unfortunatly i had pretty short blonde hair though, what was i thinkin with the hair. It's super long & black now & it's staying that way. I need to hassle someone with a scanner to scan it for me. Don't know how well you'll be able to see it because i think it will end up resized on here & i'm already hard enough to see in the photo as it is.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I haven't checked this topic in a while.
I'm pretty much old school metal. If it came out or a band hit after '91, chances are I don't know them. I try to keep up with the dinosaurs...King Diamond, WASP, Maiden, Priest and that lot. I think the newest band I got into before metal died was a fantastic band Iced Earth out of Florida. I know they've come out with newer albums but the last one I bought from them was Night of the Storm Rider. I need to catch up on them...and WASP's last two efforts.

Hey dude Iced Earth is nuts, if it's a newer band with an older sound you're after try In Flames. Didn't like their last 2 albums but everything before that was great. Check out their album The Whoracle on Amazon & once you get some song titles download some of the songs using a file sharer. The Whoracle is easily their best album & more to your liking.
As for my old photo i still haven't mannaged to get to a scanner but i havn't forgoten.

I may remember Major Magics, but at this moment I can't totally recall how that went. I think we had all of those things you mentioned, but some may have stood out more than others. I had my 6th birthday there, so some of those memories still stick with me. I remember when you'd walk in they had posters of famous movies of the time, but they were made as parodies of Chuck E. Yes...Sideshow Pizza and Major Magics had the traditional puppet concerts. They would play instruments and dance,etc...I used to LOVE that! Chuck E. No prob, UV52 (I assume it's fine if I type it that way)....My username actually came from something funny I saw on TV in January 2003 (as stated in the "How did you come up with your usernames" thread in PPP). I did not capitalize it because 1) I didn't want anyone to think it was my real name, and 2) it's real easy to type all lowercased. :)

So I posted a picture of my 350z that I enjoy cruising in while listening to 80's tunes on my I-Pod. I actually owned a blue/silver two-tone Datsun 280zx the 80's, it was sharp looking, but expensive for a highschool guy to maintain. It definately was all about the fashion..... I don't have a whole lot of pictures from the 80's...I really wish I did...I just wish I had my clothes all back....me and my one girlfriend were trying on each others clothes after school one day and we took a bunch of pictures of ourselves...here's one she took of me....I was wearing my Dad's black "Indiana Jones" hat....I know it's blurry...but ya get the idea. I think I forgot to change my shoes, cause normally I would have wore red or black high heels with that outfit.
That's a pic of the thoughts in my mind of the '80's. Not much for men's fashion back then, but the women's fashion definitely had soemthing going. Today's fashion has definitely gone down hill...

It shouldn't take no more than a few minutes - plus, it's fun to look around there at the nifty printing options they have and stationary stuff. Last time I went to Kinkos, I had to make 40 copies of a 15 page class project to hand out to every student in the class - that took me about 1 1/2 to 2 hours - blah! :P

Thanks for the compliment. I don't really think I have changed that much. Not when I have seen alot of people my age, and they look 50 to me. My husband just turned 40 last week, and i'll be 38 in September, so I am not too far behind him. I honestly think that the fact I have never drank, or smoked or done drugs, and I drink lots of water and take Vitamin E every day, I think it is what has helped me stay younger looking than alot of people my age. My mom is almost 60 and people think she's in her early 40's, so it could also be in my family.

1989 - The end of the 80's - and definetly the end of my fashion designing days. I actually helped make that skating dress. I sewed that part that has that big blob of sequins and see through sheer fabric. My Aunt Penny did most of the other work. I wore this to a skating testing program I was in so I could advance to Star 3, which was one more step from being in the skating "Club"

That wallpaper was at least from 1973. The people who first moved in that house had an intererior decorator come in and do all this stuff to the house. I loved that wallpaper. It was SO thick and had a neat texture to it. I actually helped my mom rip it out some years later and then we eventually repainted the whole room white (yawn).
I love that pic of my brother and the show. It's so sweet. I look thoroughly entertained, yet it looks like I had no choice because I was super strapped into that baby seat ;D
That dress in the top pic I get a total kick out of it. It was the most popular skating dress at our roller rink and I really wanted it. I think I finally got it for my birthday and I wore it to death. It has giraffes all over it in the pink section and a patch of a green leaf at the top.

I know that my mom never had any ultrasounds done; in fact, she didn't know whether I was gonna be a boy or a girl until I was born.

Were any such pictures taken then?
I know that my mom never had any ultrasounds done; in fact, she didn't know whether I was gonna be a boy or a girl until I was born.
I think there's 1 ultrasound picture of me that was taken in April of that year. I may have to look to make sure. My parents, I guess, didn't know whether I was a boy or a girl either, as they didn't want to know, as well. I think from the ultrasound, you couldn't tell what I was - I looked more like a lizard ;D

1989 - The end of the 80's - and definetly the end of my fashion designing days. I actually helped make that skating dress. I sewed that part that has that big blob of sequins and see through sheer fabric. My Aunt Penny did most of the other work. I wore this to a skating testing program I was in so I could advance to Star 3, which was one more step from being in the skating "Club"

For the record, the last of my great-grandparents (my mom's mom's mom) was alive to see me for the first eight years of my life; she died in 1988 at the age of 83. :( Now her eldest daughter--my maternal grandma--is almost 85.

This was me around 1988 or 1989. My aunt was making some frosting for a cake at her house, and she mixed the colors wrong and the frosting came out green. No one liked it except me, so I got a whole cup from of green frosting.

This was me around 1988 or 1989. My aunt was making some frosting for a cake at her house, and she mixed the colors wrong and the frosting came out green. No one liked it except me, so I got a whole cup from of green frosting.

Yeah, he was born in August of 1979, but the school we were at held him back a year because he couldn't draw a good picture of himself ::) So, during our elementary years he and I were only 2 years apart, but when he went to a public school he was accepted at his normal grade, so he went up one. He was always too smart to be one grade lower, I thought. :)

That sucks that he couldn't draw what he looked like...I was never forced to do something like that. It was a show on WPIX called "The Best Talk in Town." Can't be sure of the exact date but I know it was sometime in the fall or winter of 1986.

It's not a bunny ear it's part of the poster.
It looks like a bunny ear in relationship to your head. If you retook the pic and positioned your head differently, it probably would not look like a bunny ear. Just a suggestion.

Oh yeah, I did Sun-in hair lightener my whole high school career. I have a picture where I had used it so much in the summer before that my roots were nearly black (because at the time, I had not yet tried actual boxed hair dye.) ;D I think it was super pale blonde on the ends and dark roots. Now I forget what my original hair color was that I started with.

What happened was from 1974 (the time I was born) till 1984 for 10 years I've been sucking my thumb and after that my 2 front teeth became crooked and what they call "bucky" from all that thumb sucking and so the doctor had to put me on braces in the summer of 1985 but before that he put me on such heavy novocaine that I had to be carried to the car to be taken home to nap so the stuff could wear off and then in 1986 I was put on retainers for a couple of years.

wearing a retainer wasn't fun all the time, the retainer had to keep my teeth straight, I wore it for a few years till it was taken out but still after 25 years later when everything was taken off completely my 2 front teeth aren't great I just lisp once in a while.

Hawaii 1980 This was a singing group comprised of high school, college/career people from the church I used to go to. the group was called called Sound Of Joy and in 1980 we went to Hawaii for 2 weeks to perform a Christian musical concert. Hawaii is my kind of mission field 8)

I think My Mother just hated the way I squinted, the light was too bright and right in my face so what was I going to do? She just didn't like that photo at all maybe it was because of my "buck teeth" and at that time I was just a year away from getting braces for my teeth, Braces helped a bit in try to straighten out my "buck teeth" but then after braces I needed a retainer.

I threw together that pirate outfit on a whim - there weren't many pirate movies going on around or before then so it wasn't like today (pirates were much less popular). I know the guy on my left to be quite tall so no, I'm not a midget ;D

Thanks! Kudos for remembering its twin, the Lancer. It was a good car, well engineered, with nice features, plenty of cargo room, and a comfy interior. Unfortunately it didn't last quite as long as I'd hoped it would - but for the first seven-ish years it was a real winner.

Those are the cars I still drive, from that era. Yep I often think of an episode of Classic Concentration where one of the cars was a Cutlass wagon. That’s what my summer car is, an 89 Cutlass wagon.

It was right around that time that I started to notice that all cars suddenly looked basically alike. In previous times, of course, cars were very distinct in many shapes, colors and sizes.

The US Navy has it's own air branch that operates from aircraft carriers (and a few land bases if I'm not mistaken) just like the Royal Navy has.
Top Gun is the nickname of the Navy's top pilot training program. The Air Force's equivalent is called Red Flag.

This is one of myself when I was 6. This was December 1986. I was wearing jelly shoes(not outside only in the house). It was December so when I was outside I wore my boots. I remember that winter. It snowed everyday and my siblings and I would always play outside. In this photo there is also one of my cute My little ponies next to me. I never forget the scent of the synthetic hair on the ponies. Forgot what I was reading here lol.
