I was thinking about running this competition once again. It works similarly to other contests on this site such as ABC or ARTISTRY in which you write or use an already written song parody and vote on other's. Instead of being based on letters or artists however this is based on a period of every 5 years from the 1960s - TODAY with certain topics to follow suit.

THE DECADES would be:

1. 1960-1965
2. 1965-1970
3. 1970-1975
4. 1975-1980
5. 1980-1985
6. 1985-1990
7. 1990-1995
8. 1995-2000
9. 2000-2005
10. 2005-2010
11. 2010-2017


THE TOPICS are up for debate...

4. HISTORY
5. TOYS & GAMES

7. BAD HABITS

But since this will be a Group Project, Group Participation on coming up with clever topics to play with would also be entertaining and helpful.

There are 2 WEEKS to SUBMIT a song & 2 WEEKS to VOTE on a song.

(The life of a parody writer has really died off around these parts so this is OPEN TO EVERYONE and I would love to see some of you NEW PARODY WRITERS joining in the fun as well)

Awesome, Please!

It’s a word that’s meaningless
look everywhere, you’ll find
it assaulting ears/eyes like a shiv.
As a term it shows toothlessness…
hear/see it and I’m resigned.
To me a break I wish people would give.

Awesome! Please!! It’s such a bromide word;
those who use it have no clue.
Awesome! Please!! It’s a linguistic turd,
a term everyone should eschew.

I can find guys by the ton
who think they rhapsodize
when they rap it—it just makes me grieve.
As an expression, it’s a waste
and has metastasized.
From a claque of hacks they thieve.

Awesome! Please!! It’s such a “bro”-type word;
those who use it should go do.
penance! Please, not this semantic turd,
a term everyone should eschew.

You see: I don’t love it,
it is not my friend.
It’s been nauseating me
for years—it never ends…
seems like an eternity.
Why can’t it just suspend
and go, just go?

When I hear a triteness spree,
ears feel as if burned.
I ask myself: “How’s cursed vex-ling’ spawn?!
“Awesome!” is of rightness free.
For me, its users have earned
a place in the “should be banned” words lexicon.

those who use it should go do
penance, seize a large ligatured quirt
and use it dorsally to hew.

JB, nice contribution, but this would be a bit more organized. I think we have a quorum of interested parties, Matthias, but more discussion is needed about the rounds, and the basic rules of competition.
