Subject: Artistry Round 60 (Broadway & Musicals) Entry Deadline 10/23/09
Written By: Below Average Dave on 10/10/09 at 9:39 am
Please note that this does NOT include animated musicals. . .they were included back in round one, however musicals and broadway is pretty descriptive, how both it and indie ended up back to back is beyond me, but this is the final non-artist specific round
Seasons of Love
Today for You, Tomorrow for Me
A Spoonful of Sugar
Supercalifragilisticexpiolidotious
Chim Chim Cheree
El Tango de Roxanne

Elephant Love Medley
You Can't Stop the Beat
Good Morning Baltimore
Welcome to the 60's
I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General
All That Jazz
Anything Goes
Sweet Transvestite
Fame
There are like thousands of other examples, so have fun!

Well, this is gonna suck. I'll probably end up doing somethin' from Pirates of Penzance (the only freakin' musical I KNOW)...
Also: third non-artist-specific round? What was the first? What about the upcoming Motown round? I'm confused!

That's what I thought, but I repeat: what about the upcoming Motown round?

So techincally you can do any song from the "American Idiot" Green Day album and call it a showtune! Score!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenacious_D_in_The_Pick_of_Destiny also counts as a musical so if I wanted to I could put in "Dave's Petting Zoo" which I think I might do as a placeholder...

I think it needs to be one song and not a bunch of them... But I guess it's up to Dave to make that call.

How in the holy hell did they manage to squeeze it all on one page, footnotes and all? :o
There's no denying the craft and genius of this work, but geez...it kind of puts the rest of us at a disadvantage, to be quite honest. :( (also considering that I don't think these authors have ever contributed to this contest before... :-\\)

I'm not sure about that. The article you cite isn't even there anymore. As an example of a rock record turned stage musical, you could definitely do The Who's Tommy.
As for Tenacious D...isn't that a movie that happens to have a few songs? I never would have thought of that as a "musical". Why not do a song from the Scrubs My Musical instead?

Is there any way you can break up individual parts? If I were to allow that as an entry, we could end up with a whole bunch of parodies of entire shows--which is certainly not the intention of the contest. . .I mean, it's meant individual songs within just as the artist rounds are. . .I certainly didn't see that kind of entry coming. Not to mention some may grade harshly on pacing as providing a complete clip would be near impossible.

The entry you currently have does qualify. . .as for Green Day's American Idiot, no because the music in the musical is not identical to Green Day's version, though I suppose if you wanted to seek out the choral versions recreated for that purpose you could--but seeing that there is an actual Green Day round, that would kind of defeat the purpose of this round, though I will allow it as long as the parody IS of the Berkely Rep version and not Green Day's, though I am unable to personally find any of their stuff so it may put you at a disadvantage for judging purpose

According to Wikipedia (which has been wrong before but still): "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (also known as Kings of Rock: Tenacious D in Germany) is a comedy/rock musical set in the 1990s, starring Tenacious D, an American satirical rock duo that features Jack Black and Kyle Gass."

I don't know what I'm doing with it, but I'm pretty sure I'm going with "Springtime For Hitler". Because I can, really.

Jeez! lots of controversy is going on this round! I may enter 'Maury', my parody of 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', but I'm not sure.

I've always considered Tenacious D a musical personally, albeit non-traditional, but musical nonetheless so it would be accepted via the rules set.
Torey/SP . . . your Muray parody definitely qualifies for this round!

As the conflicting lyrics sheets, mp3s and videos for Springtime for Hitler are too much for me to handle, I'm switching the song to 'I Wanna Be A Producer' from the same musical. I'm keeping the same topic of 'weather that pisses me off', albeit altered from 'spring weather goes up and down like a bloody yo-yo' to 'why the hell does it have to be so damn cold'. Coming soon: 'I Wanna Be Somewhere Warmer'!

Thanks, Dave- that's why I asked... And certainly don't wish to make enemies. How about this one instead?
