Subject: Ages of Amiright (Round 4)

Ages of Amiright: Part 2
Round: 4
Our fourth topic is kinda spooky so those with weak stomachs, carrying small children, pregnant with small children, or if you are a small child then get out now because I don't think you'll be able to handle the next round of this competition. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen the time has come for "Horror and Paranoia"... Hold onto your broomsticks we're going in!
Our first full decade is the "60's". The "60's" is one out of two full decades we're going to represent here in the Ages of Amiright, because it's one that there wasn't a large variety of music coming from. Pretty much there was The Beatles and then there was everyone else, and although it's an important decade I don't want two rounds full of Beatles songs. Once again if you don't know any songs from this decade check them out here www.top40db.net, or make sure to check Wikipedia before you enter it.
Here are the few rules that this contest has...
1. Make sure that your song has something to do with the topic (That's why it's there for)
2. Make sure your song is from that half decade (If you don't know ask)
3. Make sure that you get it done in the time limit given (Which is two weeks from today)
4. Make sure to post it here when it's uploaded on Amiright
5. Have fun with it
Deadline: February 11th

I tentaively enter my horror doctor flick "The Quack" no need to link my recording to this one because it's on the page. . .
http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/therollingstones142.shtml
However, I may write something new, but it would be hard for me to top "The Quack" which performed well in other contests it was entered, and is one of my most downloaded recordings.

Brush up on your music history, sir. :o ::) Motown, folk rock, psych rock, Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound pop, the renaissance (and devolution) of the "teen idol" phenomemnon...so much more than you state here.
Ah, but we might as well make it easier as a full decade. ;)

Does paranoia annoy ya?
It's probably good for me that I don't have one in my archives. I've been lazy.

:o Horror and the 60s--sounds appropriate! :o
Note: I loved the 60s as a cultural decade--I was a child then--but we faced, and faced down, some horrors! :D

??? Does the horror have to be of the Frankenstein-Dracula-Serial Killer variety? Or Holocaust-Hurricane Katrina-Dying of AIDS type? Or can it be a "milder" horror like the current economic crisis, or being harrassed by debt collectors? ???

Good question... I'm going with the Frankenstein-Dracula thingy, because the rest of these sound terrible to read about. :o Especially that 2nd one... :(

Oh, dear...I don't seem to have any parodies of the "horror movie" genre, and I'm not sure my Halloween-themed "I Got a Rock!" qualifies. As for paranoia, my "We Got Code Orange for Christmas" would have been perfect, except that the OS "Nuttin' for Christmas" was released in 1955! Tell ya what. I'll list some links to some 1960s parodies and you tell me if they would qualify for either horror or paranoia.
"Rush's Little Helper" (to which I'd need to add a verse) http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/rollingstones37.shtml
"Watermelon Truck" http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/mongosantamaria1.shtml
"D.C. Song (Mid-East War)" http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thedoors89.shtml
"Muckraker" http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/fiddlerontheroofmusical2.shtml
"Cranes" http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles2170.shtml
"Black Man" http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles2222.shtml

"I Got a Rock!" http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/simongarfunkel93.shtml
I know I'm asking you to do some work for me, but please let me know which of these, if any, qualify. Or I might just have to write a new one. Thanks! :D

And I really hope you do take advantage of the library, although I know how hard it is writing in a public place like that compared to a house or cublical where you're more isolated from everyone.

I'm sure it will qualify under Paranoia, though you might want to confirm that for me. So now it's between "I Got a Rock!" and "The Sounds of Violence", and I should make my choice before the deadline. :)

Does being hounded by a guy who wants you to eat green eggs and ham count as being paranoid? If not, then I'm screwed.

Oh my God, Agri, that's horrible. . .as a fellow victim of the economy (though in a different manor) I can say with honesty that I know what you are going through. As much as I would love for you to be able to continue your regular level of activity here, all I can say is I know that parody or funny is the last thing on your mind when you are looking for work.
Life always comes first, and I hope that the lay off doesn't keep you down to long, my thoughts are with you Agri--if I had the ability I'd keep you online myself. . .Chin up and good luck friend

Pardon me for cutting in... but I just happened to come across this posting. I am so sorry that you had to be laid off too. My mother was laid off from her job last summer and she's been out of work for almost six months now. It really is a shame that it's happening to so many people. My thoughts are also with you.
As for me, I'm actually searching for jobs now that I've finished college...but that's not too easy right now either. :-\\

My humble (as humble as this habitually non-humble elf can be) opinion is that if YOU (and this goes for everyone in the contest, not just you, 2nzy) think a parody fits the topic...you should enter it. No matter WHAT it is. Even if it is about rainbows and butterflies. I think that the point of these contests is to evaluate our work...maybe dig up some old gems...or get some inspiration to write something new. Whatever YOU want to showcase...I think you should showcase.
Then...as voters...we can choose to vote, or not vote for it, based in part on how well WE think it fits the topic. At least I include that in my voting criteria...(a "pretty funny" parody that fits the topic perfectly will score better than a "hilarious" parody that doesn't)...maybe that's just me. A couple of rounds ago, I think I raised some ire when I agreed with Agri that Melanie's entry didn't fit into the dating category. I never meant to imply that she shouldn't have entered it...I just, personally, thought it was more of a food parody than a dating parody. But it was a parody that she was proud of and she entered it...and a lot of people disagreed with me and voted for her...which was fine...my feelings certainly weren't hurt, and we all got to read a fun macaroni parody. :)
Long story short...enter what you want to enter...I'm sure you'll win over at least some of us. :-*
