Subject: Ages of Amiright: Part 2 (Round One, Voting!) DONE!!!
Written By: Matthias on 12/17/08 at 10:31 am
Rules
1. Vote for your top 5 favorite songs in the order in which you like them the most.
2. Don't use "DKTOS" as an excuse, there's a Youtube link for a reason.
3. Make sure you get your votes in by the midnight of the 31st.
4. If you don't vote you won't be able to get the 5 extra points for voting, thus if you're in first place you might move down to third or fourth in tight contests.
5. You can't vote for your own song.

Why is the voting thread up before the deadline? Is there any easier way to run into a problem with potential changing of votes? I may have to sit out this round because the only one I have that fits the guidelines at all isn't contest worthy but if there is more time I'll see what I can come up with this weekend. But I'm writing for idol first

The deadline is today... And since there's no voting to worry about I can do it during the day instead of waiting for for midnight, and besides Chucky won't post later at midnight anyways so I might as well do it now.
I gave Invisible Boy till Friday and he had a great excuse why he didn't have a parody done yet...

I have idol and haven't been feeling great...but if that's not enough i'll sit out this round

One Pink parody shouldn't be enough to stop you from making a deadline... I mean I completed that parody in a day's time, it's by no means an Eminem song, so it shouldn't take more than a couple hours to write it, and I mean a couple hours at most. It took me about 45 minutes if that.
Not feeling great means more time off work and more time on the computer.
BUT I'm feeling generous seeing that this is the first round of Ages 2, and I'm already giving Invisible Boy an extention, I'll do the same for you. No longer an extention that Invisible Boy though, I'll give you until Friday which means you have today and tomorrow to write your parody for this round. If that's not enough time you'll just have to sit out a round, but I think I'm being more than generous here seeing that you had a headcold and Invisible Boy had an entire Blackout to deal with.

I never said I had a headcold, did I? I'm going to see a doctor tonight to see what's wrong with me and I haven't missed any work but if I miss the round it's fine. Once I found out that the two contests would be in such conflict I decided to make Idol my top priority.

Like I said if you can get a parody done by Friday you can enter, if not, I look forward to seeing you in Round 2.

To me, Melanie, that is my greatest inspiration to be in these types of contests..
I have found so many new songs that I like through AmIRight contests (and unfortunately some that I can't even tolerate at all (IE Desolation Row and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald), it allows me a chance to listen to things I likely would have never tried on my own, and revisit old favorites I've forgotten about or didn't care for the first time around--but I like them upon second listen. . .

Thanks for saying that...I came here about 5:30pm EST intending to listen to the songs and judge...but I spent the time instead writing e-mails trying to promote my screenplay. (Yes, I do have a screenplay!) I also bought more minutes for my cell phone, and wrote a few answers on answers.yahoo.com. I don't own my own computer, and this internet cafe is scheduled to close at 10pm--I'll have spent $2 an hour, $10 total--and I have a meeting tomorrow. I'll get it done if I can, but it doesn't look promising... :\'(

Open letter to all contestants, but specifically for Melanie Lee and Matthias.
Traditionally in all Amiright contests that we authors have arranged, it has been customary for a Comment to be placed by all judging contestants on the page for each parody involved for each round--at the very minimum, something like "Read for the AGES Compettion." This has been instituted as proof that each contestant did in fact visit each parody page.
Melanie Lee has not done this for her judging in this round, although Matthias' rules stated at the top of this thread do not include this step.
As Melanie Lee is a newcomer to our friendly confines--and I do trust that she has fairly judged each parody, based on her posts above-- I would recommend that Matthias include a rule about leaving comments for the subsequent rounds of this competition, and we can disregard the lack of the same for this round.
As you are the chair of this contest, I leave it to you Matthias for the final decision regarding the issue.
Hate to sound so somber :-[...Have a Happy New Year's Eve/Day if I don't hear from any of you before the end of the day. :-* :)

I was also thinking about that. And yeah, that's a step I just forgot to add in here. That was my mistake.
For the next rounds I'll enforce it.

Whew, it hit me I hadn't voted in this yet--BUT then I remembered, I haven't done the parody for round two either. . .the deadline is January 7th. . .that way we weren't cramming to get our votes in just before New Years Eve, good thing too--my time has been limited of late as surely most of yours has. . .
I will vote before the January 7th deadline, thank goodness for that extension, I planned around--it'd be tough time wise had the deadline not been as long as it is for this round.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! :)

Y'know, I did consider for a moment leaving comments on this page, but didn't do so because, as I said in my comments, my judging was a rush job. I don't own a computer at home, and it costs me $2 an hour to use the internet cafe in my neighborhood (where I am at this writing), and it closes around 10pm. Because of the holidays, I had the usual Christmas busyness, and shorter hours at my job at a public college, as the semester was ending. (Excuses, excuses...) ::)
Anyway, I'm glad you trust that I did listen to and judge each entry. I only listened once, and judged upon first impression only. (If this negates my votes, so be it.) :-\\
I came here tonight to write my entries for Ages of Amiright Round 2. I'm going to write two, and choose one. For the sake of my fellow contestants, I will make the time to go back and leave comments on each Round 1 entry, probably within the next week or two. I believe I'm returning to my job next week, where I'm allowed to use the computer on my "down" time. (I recently lost my earphones, and must buy new ones for the job computers...excuses, excuses...) ::)

Subject: Re: Ages of Amiright: Part 2 (Round One, Voting!) WINNERS POSTED!!!
Written By: Matthias on 01/07/09 at 11:16 pm
Before we reveal the winners of the first round of Ages of Amiright, I first would like to say I'm proud of each and every one of you. You did something that a lot of writers can't do, and that's take a topic I give you, and in a two week period come up with new songs or previous songs that consist of both the decade and the topic provided and even if you didn't win that in itself is remarkable enough as it is.
But there are winners and these people are the ones that are the most popular songs of this round.
And these winners are....
In first place...
Emiloca scoring (39 Points) with her parody "Men Speak"
In second place...
Arwen scoring (32 Points) with her parody "Platonic (Mixed Signals)"
And in third place...
Jeff Reuben scoring (27 Points) with his parody "Boy Toy"
And now for the follow up contestants...
4th: Below Average Dave (26 Points)
5th: Wolverine (21 Points)
6th: Matthias (20 Points)
7th: Luke Brattoni (19 Points)
8th: Melanie Lee (16 Points)
9th: 2nz (15 Points)
10th: The Conqueror Of Parodies (13 Points)
11th: Agrimorfee (7 Points)
12th: Tomario (5 Points)

Congrats winners, yeah, I was in the running early, but as usual-- fell flat near the finish line, but hey, by the time I get the database caught up, I'm very likely to have the most 4th and 5th place finishes on the All Contests scale, which is kinda cool in it's own right.
My song choice often hurts me, but I parody what I want to parody. . .and besides in this race, I voted last, and ironically, my vote took me off the podium--but that's why I don't try to figure out what place I'm in right before I vote
Fun Round, tough contest.
Awesome that used my 5 point Artistry rule, I really think that should be in EVERY contest--people who enter and vote should never finish with 0 points!
