We now pay tribute to the GOD of PARODY WRITERS...one of the reasons why this contest even exists.

I've used quite a few of these, with most being on amiright or not worth posting/lost and one exception. I'd rather not use the exception, but if weird al parodies a song chances are countless others will as well.

I have a couple of ideas already! :D
I see you eliminated "George of the Jungle" from the website's list. Weird Al didn't parody that song; he covered it. Nevertheless, I'm writing a parody of it, which of course I won't enter into the contest!

BTW, what exactly is a backing track? Is that the instruments and the background vocals without the lead vocal?
???

Close, I collect backing tracks that have no backing vocals at all in them. I have asked permission from a company in France for non-profit purposes if I buy the tracks for the rights to use them for recording purposes. Red Ant has also obtained said permission. . .
We are deciding who or what way to split Round 2's winning recording, and we will probably be splitting the recording load (unless anyone has a particular preference on a given round--you guys are the contestants and get the say in how a recording should sound or who's doing it)

If I don't get an Idea soon I guess I'll just finish the Can't Touch This Idea I started.

The site did miss "Firestarter" by Prodigy, which Weird Al did a mini-parody of called "Stupid Haircut". . .though I doubt anyone wants to take that one on. . .it (like most Weird Al parodies' original songs) is recordable though

I'm trying to finish my hammer idea in case I do use it and now am not sure if I had the correct or some sort of correct version of lyrics. I think I found quite a few different ones before. I think I ought to come up with another idea and use an OS I know better.

:o The deadline for this round seems a bit close!! Actually, it suits me fine as I will be heading off to Watch Hill, Rhode Island for a week beginning on the 13th, so I'll just have to get my entry in a bit early and find out the results upon my retuirn home! Should be a fun round.

If you really want to try to use the tune, perhaps you can reference Al's "I Can't Watch This" lyrics instead.

That is how I got lost in the first place. What I started with may be in error or Al may have changed things a bit for creativity reasons. I think I found lyrics for this OS at Dave's website before. I just didn't use it. I might want to go with that.

Al has typically not matched pace-for-pace for his parodies, but he does make the lyrics flow well in the end result. Pacing is a higher issue at amiright just due to most submissions only being read against OS's and not always performed.

There's a difference between writing and performing for an audience and just writing something to be judged at Amiright or something.
I just don't know the OS as well as I do the parody. I was running the other way when the OS was popular in my school.

I cant seem to get myself to finish it and I haven't been able to think of anything else. I've been in a writers block low motivation mood for a while. It Might be time for me to just stop everything for a while ( including this contest).

I'm in! :) Just posted to the website, so when it becomes available, I will post the link here. Look for "Nostradamus" a parody of the Eagles' "Desperado" and Weird Al's "Avocado".

:D Here you go. Follow this link to "Nostradamus". I will be away in Watch Hill, Rhode Island until the 18th, so any news or excitement will have to wait for my response until then. Let's hope for lots of sunshine on the beaches of RI! :) :) :)

Good News guys . . . me and Jack "Red Ant" have worked out how the recordings are going to be done. He is going to help me pay for backing tracks through my "donation" feature over at badave.com, and I am going to do the actual recordings, starting of course with Wolverine and Ann Hammond's respective round winners.
I am going to create an AmIRight account to represent collaborations, in the future I will post all new collabs I do to this account rather than create a bunch of new accounts that contain one or two recordings because it takes a long time to get to them. Those who I currently record for obviously will still be entitled to do what they wish with their recordings, but I will be posting future ones in the main account--in order to try to keep the collaborations high on the charts by building up the catalog. The description and tags of each one will contain the singer(s)/writer(s) etc involved, and it will be open to any AmIRight collaboration that wishes to post in it rather than begin a new account.
I will post more about this project in the Song Parodies board when it becomes available, what it means for you guys is probably the winners of Round 2 or 3 recorded by the end of the week and a new account you can go to for all collabs and less wait time between collabs (as it is much easier for me as well)

I'm going with one of the toughest songs possible for this round - possibly the toughest of those I haven't done yet, and hopefully I'll be able to finish by Wednesday night.

Change of plans upon further understanding of the rules. The OS i picked is among Al's funniest and I'm not going to top that especially in 3 days.

Bland
Have been submitted. Work is kicking my rear this week, and I'll admit these probably aren't the best of my efforts. But the deadline is approaching. While I wrote both with this contest in mind (and I had other ideas, like an ode to celebrity stalkers called "Peepin' by the Hedge"), when the songs are up on AmIRight tomorrow I'll probably be linking Bland for my submission for Idol.

I'm fairly confident that I''ve out-funnied Al already with the particular song I'm using, but I still need to finish it. I should be done by the deadline, but I hope that I won't have to be sloppy to do it.

I apologize Matthias, but I work all weekend, and I seem to be the one posting most of the threads. . .I came on here for a few minutes each day to reply to the new contest thread, and that's really about it, We all generally start are comments after the weekend anyway since that's when Agri has access to a computer, It's a little difficult to try to orchestrate so much at one time, to be honest I'm getting worn out, it will be posted at some point tonight, after I finish other obligations . . .
