I think I have more parodies on the site that would qualify for this round than anyone else but I don't think that's of any use to me now. This contest is going to last quite a while, isn't it?

Well.... This round won't be too hard for me either seeing that the song that I posted in the last round was also from the 00's.
The hard part for me will be actually settling with a song to parody there's FAR too many that I actually want to do for this!!!!!!!

Most of our contestants in the introductory round submitted songs from before the 2000s. We want to see how they fare with modern but somewhat popular tunes, which often have more difficulty because of their tight structure and repeated choruses.
Remember, your submission from here on out must be a new one.

??? Ooo, you devil! So you want us to submit a new tune from 2000+, eh? And it has to be on the Top 100 of Billboard, which would eliminate a lot of Broadway tunes. Ouch! Well, to my recollection I only did two from the 00s, and I can't submit either of them? :\'(
What a challenge! I think I'd better consult my nieces and nephew. Again, ouch! :P

I'm all for a Broadway round, and I hope my co-judges will agree.
Many eligible tunes are available on Youtube for viewing at no cost (which I also recommend you include a link to with your submission when you post it here). However, watch out that some videos don't use the same edited version as lyric sites do.

I don't really know any of these songs. I have found one to work with and started.

Being forced to do something you aren't used to doing, in any creative endeavor, is a character-builder. :)

Yes it is
I might have heard the song I picked from a Kids Bop comercial in the past. Thats why I looked up the lyrics. I went to Youtube and fiound a midi for It. Sounds like the lyrics I found fit in the timing of the Youtube performance and the midi. It's possible that I can sing the song very well.

Has it always been your steadfast rule that you don't parody something unless you can sing it? Keep in mind that Red Ant, Dave (and others, maybe?) will provide the recording vocals where needed for all winning contestant projects. (I could, if I only had the technology available to me)

It's not so much singing as it is knowing the song. I can sing almost anything I try to. In challenges I've written parodies for songs I don't know. I never really listened to 90's or 2000 songs before my ear went bad on me in 2003.

:o Well, over the past day I've racked my brains thinking of new songs from over the last eight or nine years. A week or two ago I was in a greeting card shop and I was singling along with this new tune, and I was amazed at myself that this 50-something was singing along with this new tune, but now I don't remember the tune!
Also, this woman and her group have been circulating the talk shows recently singing this song, but I don't remember what the song was!
Thing is, we older folks already have our soundtracks grained into our brains. Unless you have kids constantly playing their stuff around you, you won't hear the new stuff enough for those songs to groove themselves into you.
Anyway, I did come up with some twelve tunes--some already done to death on Amiright.com ("Hey Ya", "Who Let the Dogs Out?"), and some that to my surprise haven't even been touched yet (I'm not telling!). One very recent tune was playing in my head before the new round was posted, and that tune hasn't been covered yet! (No, I'm not telling that either!)
Anyway, the list links at the top of this thread are helpful for jogging the memory. Also, think of who and what you've heard on the talk shows lately. Think of the awards shows and the movies. If you have kids, ask them. Or borrow their CDs.

I think that a lot of very recent songs that you might hear on talk shows or top 40 radio now wouldn't be eligible for this round because they came out in 2008 or late 2007 and therefore could not have made an end-year top 100 list, but maybe current billboard hits will be a later round.

As of today, Chris Brown's "With You" is #35. However, this is not the year-end total which I believe is what we are going for here.

::) Oh, you're right! I was misreading it as any song that had been in the Top 100 of Billboard, and I was thinking of the weekly charts as well as the yearly ones. So it's just the yearly Top 100 from 2000 to 2007, eh? That narrows the field! ::)

Hey, guys, I'm in already. Had several ideas but this one seemed to work the best. I've already posted it on amiright; I assume that is precedure. If not, let me know. Couldn't find a good link to a version of the song for you, so I hope you either know it or can find one for us all. Might be crammed up in the next week or so, so I had to get to work quickly. Hope you like it, and I hope it's recordable. Thanks. Here it is: oops! :-[ just realized that I have no link to it yet since I literally just posted it on amiright. When it comes up I'll post it, but if you want to see it first, it's a paraody of "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack called "You'll Lose Your Pants". Be in touch.

.... I don't want to be excluded from this, but unless I get my laptop sometime next week I might very well have to be. Not having a computer sucks!!!! I'm using one in the computer lab right now, but I don't know whether I would be able to write a parody in here. If worse comes to worse I'll have to write something in here. But it's really hard to enter into things without the proper gear.

;) Hey, I don't own my own computer, and I manage! I use computers at work (with permission), at the library, and at Internet cafes. Sometimes I use my sister's computer. Idea: write your parody in ink, then transfer here. If I can do it, so can you! 8)

I'm having a similar problem...my internet's been cut off indefinitely and right now i'm in an internet cafe but it can be expensive to stay in here long enough to write something especially brand new. I may have to go with something that I started in the past but never fully committed to paper.

I never write on a PC (since I only have access at work). The real problem, I guess, would be in getting a good lyric sheet.

Parody of Nickelback's "Rock Star"?
That it is. I thought about doing the song after encountering the game on vacation in Brooklyn in May, and the direction came when read or heard about some band who's upwards of 90 Million points on the band leaderboard. This round provided the opportunity.
Besides, I like Nickelback. :-)
