Subject: April SOTM Entries
Written By: Cat on 04/30/06 at 2:23 pm
I know this is the third one I've done this year, but dang it, I like putting this up!
~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.
~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.
~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.
~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your five favorites in order:
Top choice gets 5 points, next gets 4 points and so on to 1 point for your fifth favourite.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest past or present may vote.
~~By entering, you are agreeing to read and comment on all the other entries and vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not both comment on all entries and vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest may copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.
~~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post. Changes are made only when a majority of that month's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

I had three parodies this month. One of them is in the contest I'm hosting, so here is the one of the other two.

Oh, man. They say (and by they I mean Cat) that the 'Big 3' songs to parody are Be Our Guest, I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General and American Pie. Cat's entered the 2nd of the 3, so I shall make the contest harder to vote on...and I'll incur the wrath of Cat because the subject is not what she calls 'universal'...by enering this:
Transformer Pie
No prizes for guessing which of the 'Big 3' it's based on. Oh, and here. Follow the 'Cybertron Episode' link scrolling at the bottom the page, to be lead to where you can watch the Cybertron TV show, which my parody is based on.

Well actually, Pieman, the "Big Three" to me are American Pie, Major-General, and The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. Be Our Guest is certainly popular, but I think it's not quite hard enough to compete with the Big Three.
But you're right. I have now entered two of them. And my parody of the third should be up tomorrow.

Hmm, so I guess I wouldn't be able to enter my song that I submitted the 29th but probably won't be passed until the 1st?

This is too fun to quit doing! ;D And besides, I'm on such a roll with Nickelodeon Idiot that I am going to enter one that was actually released as a single rather than just an album cut.
I chose "Kenan & Kel of Present Day" for February because it was the longest one I had yet written for the rock opera. And long songs or hard-to-parody songs get huge buzz around here.
I chose "St. Snicky" for March because I felt that "St. Jimmy" was catchier and better-known than "Are We the Waiting?"
And for April, I am entering "Nickelodeon Idiot 11: Wake Me Up in 2010" because TOS was a single and was a huge hit, so everyone should know TOS. And knowing TOS is very beneficial to a parodist.
Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society ;D: http://www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/greenday280.shtml
For those of you who for whatever reason DKTOS, here's the video (I hope; it worked for me): http://www.mp3.com/albums/642361/summary.html
If the video doesn't pop up in another window automatically, scroll down to "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and click on Watch the Video
Good luck to everybody! :)

~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
It has come to my attention that a song originally posted in April, and then submitted again in April, but not appearing on the front page of AmIright until May 1st would stilll be eligible for April SOTM. Given the way the rule is currently written, I have to agree.
One author has such an entry, which will be allowed into April SOTM competition. Mysterygoat, while not fitting this loophole that I see, will also be able, if he chooses, to enter his May 1st parody into April SOTM.
No one else ask, because the answer in advance is no. As of the next entry thread, the rule will read:
~~Any song that is posted on AmIRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
This is not a rule change IMO (and therefore is not open to voting); it cleans up the language of the existing rule to match its original intention.
Edit: Recordings are still fine as long as the song fits the above rule. In other words, no one can submit a recording by itself into SOTM. Not that I think it would happen, but you never know....

And as always I'm linking to an mp3 from:
http://k1chyd.adress.eksjo.com/dktos/
(Due to quality reasons I'm linking from there to an external mp3 that has an early, extra use of "You can't have one, You can't have none" compared to the version us parody writers usually (as I here) base our parodies on, that only has that passage in the final verse).

Given that nearly all my April output was to songs nobody seems to know, at the risk of being overly political, I'm entering one that has been heard one or two places round the world:
