Subject: Brangelina - An Amiright Musical

Written By: Stuart McArthur on 02/14/06 at 7:40 pm

I thought it would be fun to put together another anthology/musical, called "Brangelina" about....yes....Brangelina

It will be similar to last years "Pirates Who Penstanzas" in that I'll post the final collection on the Authors Page, so they'll be catalogued as an Amiright communal effort, but it will be different to the Pirates because there won't necessarily be a story-line linking them (unless I can manage one), and they're all to the same OS.
If you want to be a part of it, here are the rules...

RULES
The OS is "Don't Cry For Me Argentina
Your parody title must be "Don't Blank Blank Blank Angelina"
IMPORTANT!!!!
** All three blanks must be one-syllable **
** The first blank must contain a hard "I" (ie. like "cry") **
** The third blank must contain a hard "E" (ie. like "me") **

Already we have Rick Cormier's from last year: "Don't Whine At Me Angelina"  (hope that's okay Rick!)
and I've posted one "Don't Try To See Angelina"

other suggestions....
     Don't Climb The Tree, Angelina
     Don't Buy The Brie, Angelina
     Don't Try To Cheat, Angelina
     Don't Drive The Jeep, Angelina
     etc. etc.

You must use this thread to claim a title for yourself (so we don't get repeat titles) then just make up any nonsense involving Ange, Brad, Maddox, Lara, Jon Voight, Billy Bob, Cambodia, Jen Aniston, Mr and Mrs Smith, lockets of blood, etc. to honour your title.

(Or, just suggest a title and I'll add it to this post for other people to use)

When/if I get ten submissions, I'll post them under "Brangelina - an Amiright Musical" on the authors page, like I did with the Pirates.

There will be a cut-off date, but I'll make that decision (or can the idea totally) based on the response.

I thought a whole musical of similar identically-paced titles would be funny, so if the title doesn't follow "Don't Bl(y)nk Blank Bl(ee)nk Angelina" (ie. with the rhymes for "Cry" and "Me") sorry, but it won't be included.

Post completed parodies as normal under your own name, then I'll repost the lot under "Brangelina - An Amiright Musical"

I'll keep editing this post in this thread with updates so you can see where we're at.
Green names mean the parodies have been completed and submitted.
Purple names mean the title has been reserved, awaiting completion.

gee, as if I wasn't trying, yet I didn't think of ANY of those, Matthias - I'll put them up on the top post - (I esp loved the Bruce Lee one)

which one(s) do you want to claim?

I'll claim...
Don't Hide The Keys, Angelina

If I can't participate because I don't 'fit the mold', I'll understand, but I call:

Show me your blank, Angelina
Your blank-blank is really blank-blank
I think of blank
And blank my blank
So let me thank you
Then let me blank you

we're talking a whole new musical with those numbers, 2nz, AND a whole new late night timeslot, AND a whole new demographic (But I for one will be riveted :o)

Subject: Re: Brangelina - An Amiright Musical

Stu. I'm interested but there is one hurdle I need to overcome first:

I don't remember TOS worth a darn, so if you could put up a copy on your site or otherwise find one, I'm interested.

Provided that is done I have a few titles of my own:

Don't bite my peen, Angelina -okay, maybe a whatfreaker..let me try something better.

Don't sign the lease, Angelina - no idea what I'd do with this
Don't time it please, Angelina - hmm, questionable there too.  ;)
Don't dye it please, Angelina - hair coloring, that's doable.
Don't light up me, Angelina - maybe about making a fire or possibly electrical repair
Don't fight with me, Angelina - fantasy relationship less than ideal
Don't lie for me, Angelina -  ???

Feel free to add those titles. For now, provided you or I can find a MP3 I'll take "Don't Time It Please, Angelina". I think I can use enough double entendres to get it submitted.

Question: 11.  "Don't Buy CDs, Angelina", that's allowed? CDs is more a two-syllable word.

Dammit, dammit, dammit!

more than just allowed, it works perfectly:
"blank blank blank" = "buy Cee Dees" = 3 syllables with first and last as "I" "E" sounds - no problem

in the same way that "Don't Waikiki Angelina" would also work if it made sense

hmmm, "kicking my TRASH!" is unfamiliar to me as a term, but the emoticon had the desired effect.

You know I would love to change the rules just to please your elfness, but alas, my desired reputation as a hard-nosed rule-enforcer would suffer fatally - so, sorry darling :-*

(anyway, I know you were just trying it on, and probably have 20 workable rhymes with "cry" up your sleeve ;))

DON'T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA - LYRICS

It won't be easy
you'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I've done
You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you

I had to let it happen
I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun
So I chose freedom
Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance

And as for fortune
and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seems to the world they were all I desired
They are illusions
They're not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me

Don't cry for me Argentina

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance

Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me
To know that every word
is
true

Don't cry for me Argentina

Oh, the way you wrote it made me think it had to be three seperate words like TOS song title has in the middle

Here's a few more titles then:

Don't mind the sheep, Angelina - that title made me chuckle, and is my alternate pick in case the first is unworkable or gets rejected.

Don't hire me...
Don't fire me...
Don't find the 'zines...
Don't spy on me....
Don't try the peas...
Don't die on me...
Don't write or read...
Don't diary...
Don't ride for free
Don't bribe my niece

Okay, I think that is enough brain storming for one night. Plenty of verbs to run with already.

I love this idea.  Been thinking up titles all morning.  None of them are as good as "Fight Bruce Lee", but here they are:

Don't Smite That Priest, Angelina

Don't Bite The Queen, Angelina

Don't "Slice The Cheese", Angelina ("Cut The Cheese" would be funnier, but a rule is a rule)

Don't Swipe My Jeep Beans, Angelina

Don't Wipe The Seat, Angelina

Don't Fry Bar-ney, Angelina

I can't commit to writing one, though; I'm way too lazy for that.  But I HEREBY CHALLENGE JOHN A. BARRY TO PARODY EVERY SONG TITLE IN THIS THREAD BY TOMORROW MORNING!!!!

There, that oughta do it.

JUST KIDDING, JOHN, IF YOU'RE WATCHING!!!  DON'T HURT YOURSELF!!!!  I SWEAR, IT WAS A JOKE!!!  DON'T DO IT!!!!!

There, that oughta really do it.

A former hiking acquaintance of mine would refer to off-trail-hiking (a.k.a. "bush-whacking") as "fighting trees".

So, I suggest and claim this one:

Don't Fight The Trees, Angelina

And, I also claim this one:

I've never heard "hire"as one syllable, I pronounce roughly the same as "higher". However, "fire" is routinely one syllable, more like "far" but with an odd sounding A that isn't quite an I either.

Words that have E and/or I in conjunction with an R are an odd group which I wrongly call 1/2 syllable words.  Even rhymezone seems confusing:

Admire and retire (and even expire) are listed as 2 syllables. So I guess they are like Ad-mar, re-tar and x-par.

Desire and attire are listed as 3 syllables. De -sigh -er and a - tie -er.

Yep, English is goofy.

Half the page is oriental characters, so use Control + F and type in "Don't" to find it.

But should I post it right now, or should I wait?

Well, I was shooting blanks on my title "Don't Time 'It' Please, Angelina" for two days but I just finished it up a bit ago. I was seriously unhappy with the way it was going at first but looking at the finshed product now I am quite pleased with it, especially the ending.

It'll be up for Monday. The parody too.  ;D

BTW, I d/l your MP4 Stu, my brand spanking new computer apparently needs a 36 MB Quick Time/Apple d/l to play it so I went with Madonna's version.

my experience exactly, Red.  I think it's quite a surprisingly challenging OS, and not because of its short lines or phrases or  sparse rhyme pattern, but because of the lack of obvious rhyming pattern.

I've found the process fascinating creatively, because it showed me how I rely on there being user-friendly rhymes and logical couplets to punctuate each verse, and please the reader

When they're not there, you have to use other things.  To parody "Argentina", I found it more about trying to duplicate the gravitas and the rhythm in order to send the song up - a sort of a mocking of its self-important tone.  At first I was bamboozled, but now I quite like it.

if you have the the latest itunes it should have automatically installed the latest Quicktime.  I bought the OS from itunes MusicStore, so that's why it's mp4.

That's very curious, Stu, considering I'm a Mac user and I use iTunes often, but when I tried your link it said that iTunes wasn't authorized to play the song on my computer and that I had to download it. Perhaps it was some copyright issue?

Here it is: "Don't Fight The Trees, Angelina"

( I based that parody on the lyrics Stuart posted on this thread & on a recording of Julie Covington's performance ... Later, I checked it against a recording of Sarah Brightman's performance, and it matches Sarah's performance, too. I haven't checked it against Madonna's performance --- but 2 out of 3 ain't bad!  ;D )

Obvious being the key word. The way the lyrics sheets are made it looks like only the chorus and a few lines of the verses rhyme at all, but the way it is sung (ie pauses/inflection of voice) made me realise there are quite a few near rhymes that I had to duplicate, kind of like parodying a Pearl Jam song in that matter.

I think the most challenging part though was listening to Madonna for the better part of two hours in small bits to get every line to satisfaction.  ;D

I've found the process fascinating creatively, because it showed me how I rely on there being user-friendly rhymes and logical couplets to punctuate each verse, and please the reader.

Interesting point there about pleasing the reader. If one doesn't KTOS on this what you have will look horribly misrhymed but probably follows TOS as it should.

When they're not there, you have to use other things.  To parody "Argentina", I found it more about trying to duplicate the gravitas and the rhythm in order to send the song up - a sort of a mocking of its self-important tone.  At first I was bamboozled, but now I quite like it.

Yeah, with this OS it's more important IMHO to get all of the emphasises (emphasi?) on the correct syllables than to get perfect rhymes for the end-line words. Though I used Madonna's version and have never to my knowledge heard Julie Covington's I was able to use the 'swings' to include a few killer lines, mostly at the end of the verses when she has that dramatic pause before finishing.

What'll be most interesting to me is to see how each parody is formatted by each different author doing the song. Of course, since we are using at least 3 different versions (Julie Covington's, Sarah Brightman's and Madonna's) it's not really a 'true' comparison, but it'll give me insight on how others' approach this song and perhaps will help me improve future parodies lay-out wise.

Okay...now that I finally have the music (thanks Stu!) I realized my pacing wasn't as heinous as I thought it would be, but there were a few errors considering I wrote my parodies with only the lyric sheet and I relied on counting syllables.

And even though I've never heard her version, I put down Madonna since she was the only one I had heard of singing it at the time.

I've had "Don't Back-Door Me, Angelina" in my to-do list for quite a while. When Rick posted "Don't Whine at Me, Angelina," I decided to shelve my idea, because I didn't want to be too derivative with the whole Argentina/Angelina thing. But since the whole point of this group love-in is to be derivative of that very thing, and Rick appears to be OK with it, I may just proceed. All I've got so far is the chorus (in Brad's voice):

Don't back-door me, Angelina
The truth is I'd never let you
Though you've got spiked heels
And leather chaps on
I've used my safe word!
Don't use your strap-on

Since "back door" would violate Stuart's rules, I'll have to give this an even more WhatFreaksesque title: "Don't Tight-Hole Me, Angelina."

Meanwhile, fun idea, s2art. Fun stuff, y'all.

I'm not sure how many parodies were done in total, but why not just make an album of links under the "Brangelina - an AmIRight Musical" with the existing URLs instead of reposting all of the parodies like the PWP? Without the monumental story line you developed for that they should all be able to fit into one 'parody' submission. Of course, that would more or less relegate the whole thing into permanent obscurity for searches, but it isn't like we would ever forget it is there.

On the other hand, I'd love to see the story you could come up with to tie them all together, so whatever you do is fine with me.  :)
