Subject: August SOTM Voting -- Voting Closed -- Results Posted
Written By: Claude_Prez on 09/08/05 at 7:18 am
Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters are strongly encouraged to leave at least a brief comment on every parody, to prove they've at least clicked on them all. Failure to do so will not result in official consequences, but will indicate to others that you're not interested in receiving comments either.
~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.
All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.
Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

I agree with you, Agrimorfee; but it could be worse. 3 of the top 4 in the Parody Author of the Year standings (as well as some other good writers) are sitting out this month.

Hello. Thank you very much for taking the time to vote. However, as we've never had an entry by someone named "Guest" in the SOTM as far as I can recall, and we have a rule stating that only votes by people who've participated in a SOTM contest will be counted, please let us know if you are in fact an eligible voter so that we can count your votes. Again, thank you very much; we all appreciate it.

5 Points: "Your Mother is Quite a Slut" by Claude Prez
The Mailman is back. And he still delivers his load!
4 Points: "Pay THIS Fer Gasoline, Man?" Johnny D
Had I been an American I’d probably held this one as numero uno, but since I live where we have to pay twice the price you sigh over (actually, we’d refer to that level as belonging to “the good old days†I really couldn’t bring myself to have this all the way up there. Still the second best of the month though.
3 Points: "Liposuction" by Mikey Squirrel
A combined food and medical parody that has the best of both worlds. And when I found TOS on the net it brought LOLs in itself too. (I’ll have to check out more of TD’s work when I get the time). The parody was funny and scanned really, really well over the original (except for leaving out the spoken intro, but I’d say that’s mandatory in a parody like this).
2 Points: "Moneyback, Gwen" by Red Ant
The Antman takes this subgenre further and further and does it better and better. (Though I think you might wanna change soon, while you’re still on top of it).
1 Point: "Nigerian Spam" by Phil Alexander
I really should go back and work a Nigeria reference into my own old Spam Parody (SOTM submission earlier) now that I know more about it. Great stuff here. Maybe at tad to long. (But that’s TOS fault, I know, I know).

From 17 to 10 to 8 to 5 to 3...a momentary relapse of judgement...and back to 5.
5 points* - "Lotsa Pounds and Dividends" by Luke Brattoni
Marvelous syllable-for-syllable rhyming/pacing. Plus, it had nothing to do with sex or alchohol - heh, kind of like me! Not to mention a terrific OS.
*Points substituting promised nudey gifs.
4 points - "Will the Ravens Ever Score?" by John Jenkins
Hilarious concept, clever rhyming and a very difficult OS assisted this Raven in flying towards the top.
3 points - "Nigerian Spam" by Chick-Phil-A
I'm really hungry. I think one my associates said they'd take me out to lunch.
2 points - "Piano Ban" by Wenniekins
As thought-provoking as Nigerian Spam was creative. Both parodies took outrageous ideas and turned them into FABulocities. Arwen continues to rule.
1 point - "Monkeys are Bluffing" by Kristof Robertson
Terrific and peculiar as usual. Had me giggling for minutes!
Nice job, everyone. If the bar could be raised any higher, I'd have to use, like, a chair or something.

Congratulations Johnny D, Claude and EmiLoca.
A side note for Claude's entry; two days before "Your Mother Is Quite A Slut" was posted I got Queen's Greatist Hits. I thought of parodying "Another One Bites The Dust", then saw the 40 or so existing parodies of that OS (and also remembered Weird Al did it) and thought "Nothing can be done with that OS that hasn't already been done".
I was wrong. And I suppose if my mother were a slut I would have only found it "funny" verses "laughing until my face hurt".
Congratulations everyone else, truly outstanding work.
Thanks Dominic and K1chyd for my votes.

Outstanding submissions all around this month, and congrats to all! I'm glad there was a tiebreaking process in place - I would have hated to see this go to the Supreme court while legions of Johhny D and Claude Prez supporters recount the ballots and make accusations of votes that weren't counted and voters who were denied...it could have gotten very ugly.
