Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points

~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters are strongly encouraged to leave at least a brief comment on every parody, to prove they've at least clicked on them all. Failure to do so will not result in official consequences, but will indicate to others that you're not interested in receiving comments either.
~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.

You guys are right, it does get harder every month... but I have somehow managed to whittle it down to just 5 (I know, i'm amazing ::) ). Here are my choices...
1st Place : "Duelling Mangos" by Stu McArthur - Mangos, banjos and a whole world of "How does he come up with this stuff?!"
2nd Place : "Stuck To My Member With Glue" by Charlie D - Just plain hilarious!
3rd Place : "Bar Maid Fight" by Jeff Reuben - Original, creative and fun
4th Place : "I Am The Very Master Of All Errors Typographical" by Red Ant - Also up for 'Ridiculously long title of the month'
5th Place : "He Jerks Hard For The Money" by Johnny D - It's Johnny D, need I say more?!
Another great month all round, good luck to all participants :)

Just a quick reminder to everyone -- especially our new participants -- about this guideline:
~~Voters are strongly encouraged to leave at least a brief comment on every parody, to prove they've at least clicked on them all. Failure to do so will not result in official consequences, but will indicate to others that you're not interested in receiving comments either.
Again, you don't have to leave comments. But if you don't, you'll find that your song may receive fewer and/or less thoughtful comments. That is all; thank you.

So many good songs, so little slots to put them in--I had to break my faves list down to the # of votes received at this time.
5pts=Jeff Reuben
4pts=Spaff.com (Jeff & Spaff were equally good, but Jeff gets the 5 just to give Spaff a rest! ;))
3pts=Rick Cormier
2pts=Red Ant
1pt=Dr. Bob (for Most Improved Parody!)

5 pts - Mister Olden Swear - Kristof Robertson
4 pts - Dueling Mangoes - Stuart McArthur
3 pts - A Day in the Exodus - Spaff
2 pts - Cello, Harp & Violin - Leo Jay
1 pt - Stuff My Wife Has Never Wore - Tim Mayfield

More Star Wars, more newbies first time entrants. Anyway, here we go:
5 points to #10 Duelling Mangoes by Stuart McArthur, for making a funny parody from an instrumental . I don't even want to know how long this took to make.
4 points to #18 Stuck To My Member With Glue by Charlie Decker for reminding me why adhesives should clearly labeled at all times and kept out of "handy" reach. Too many good lines in this one.
3 points to # 23 An Offer You Can't Refuse by Peter Andersson a.k.a K1chyd for another outside the box concept parody that is very funny.
2 points to # 17 You Ain't Screamed, 'Nelson!' Yet by Rick Cormier.
1 point to #26 Mister Olden Swear by Kristof Robertson.
Very hard to not award points to Jeff's brawling barmaids, Phil's corpse/ghost singing "Hanging From A Lampost", etc.
Great round all. Thanks DAK and Agrimorfee!

Hi Zerla. Thank you very much for voting; I'm sure all the participants appreciate the attention. Unfortunately, though, there is a guideline that states: ÂÂ
"~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote."
This means that if you've never participated in a Song of the Month contest before, I'm afraid we'll have to disallow your votes. If I'm mistaken and you have done a SOTM before, please let me know which month and what name you were entered under. Again, thanks very much for voting and please feel free to enter next month.

5 Points........Spaff
4 Points........Leo Jay
3 Points........Rick Cormier
2 Points........Kristof Robertson
1 Point ........ Stu McArthur

Another great month, and it's nice to see some new faces taking on the tired old hacks (such as myself) who usually turn up....just kidding, you're all wonderful!
Anyway, to the voting. A longer shortlist, more painful cuts than a circumcision clinic, and general anxiety over not voting for parodies that would win any other parody competition going (amiright writers are THAT good...)
5pts: #17 Rick's wrong name epic
4pts: #11 Dee's alcoholic reptile

5 Points: A Bar Maid Fight by Jeff Reuben.
What can I say? This is classic parody material. The kind that would bring tears to the eyes of Weird Al’s agent and record company executives if it would ever be released on a real CD. It brought me tears too, but for the opposite reason! :)
4 Points: Duelling Mangoes by Stuart McArthur.
The most original idea of the month, and possibly of the whole year (at least so far), I almost had it as number one, but those Duelling Hooters was one size to big for you. :P
3 Points: Gin Hall Lizard by Dee Range.
If all bars were like Jeff Reuben’s bar we’d all (at least the men) would hang out there too much and end up like this guy, going from a bar to behind bars. :o
2 Points: I am the Very Master of all Errors Typographical by Red Ant.
In the words of Oscar Wilde: â€ÂI don’t give a damn for a man who can only spell a word one wayâ€Â. And this tale of duelling apostrophes and cuneiform lived up to that rule. :D
1 Point: A Day in the Exodus by Spaff.com.
Another chapter to the Utahn Papacy Bible! What next? The tale of Samson to some hair band hit of the 80s? ???
Kudos to the other 8 on my shortlist for making this task as hard as scoring a one night stand at a feminist convention, and an especially honourable mention to Leo Jay; I can now truthfully meet the maker saying that I’m a fan of â€ÂCello, Harp & Violinâ€Â. 8)

Hello, all. Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while. Been a busy summer and I sadly haven't been doing any new parodies lately. I have been working on a madman on my new parody site and might I say, it's looking pretty awesome.
But enough about me.
Again, this was a tough month for voting but I here I go..
5pts: #1 I am the Very Master of all Errors Typographical by Red Ant
4pts: #22 A Day in the Exodus by Spaff.com
3pts: #5 General Mills by Mike Armstrong
2pts: #26 Mister Olden Swear by Kristof Robertson

Great month, once again. Always awkward comparing so many unique and differently outstanding parodies, but here's what I came up with this month:
5 points: #4. A Bar Maid Fight by Jeff Reuben
4 points: #10. Duelling Mangoes by Stuart McArthur
3 points: #9. The Midnight Run for Awful Beer by Ethan Mawyer
2 points: #8. I Just Can't Get To Coruscant by Mikey Squirrel
1 point: #2. U Got A Cordless? by Rich Kapalin
And that's all I have to say about that.

4 points to 'A Bar Maid Fight' by Jeff Reuben
3 points to 'Chasin' that Chub' by 2nz
2 points to 'The Midnight Run for Awful Beer' by Ethan Mawyer
1 point to 'Stuck To My Member With Glue' by Charlie Decker
Scores of other enjoyable parodies in the mix, of course. Keep crankin' out the quality, folks!

honestly, i never heard of the other songs, and if i heard of them, i never heard them, so of the ones that i did know, the order i gave is based on content, how well written it is and how funny it is, and my list is how i view them

Abbott - I think you're responding to Dee's comment here.ÂÂ
As Dee pointed out, you didn't comment on (which presumably means that you didn't visit) most of this month's entries, which is not a requirement (although I think it should be) - but as Dee said, not doing so does have consequences. Those who take it seriously, (ie. most of us) read and comment on all entries (including yours) out of courtesy and to respect the spirit of the comp.
By not reading or commenting, you're not respecting that spirit, and it seems you're entering the comp to get people to read your work without being prepared to return the favour. So I, for one, won't be voting for any future entries by you (I'll still comment though).ÂÂ
In fact I see you've just entered July's SOTM, and I assume you want your entry to be read again, without being willing to read other entries (although maybe not). If so, it might become a waste of time for you to enter the comps as people start to realise the one-sided nature of your entering.
I know you're only 15, and you've only entered once, so I'm not judging you personally, especially as you're probably unaware of these finer points - I'm just pointing out some fundamental unstated rules of the comps. Otherwise it's just too easy for people to enter to get something (ie comments) without giving anything in return, and once that starts becoming the norm there'll be hundreds of entries and the whole thing will become meaningless. ÂÂ
Again, if anyone seconds (and thirds) me, I repeat my offer to be the non-comment police - meaning that if anyone notices someone hasn't commented on (ie. not visited) an entry they can privately PM me, and at the end of the month I'll post a list, so entrants can decide how to treat that entrant's entries in future.
I know it sounds Nazi-like, so fair enough if nobody wants to second me :) I certainly won't do it even if one person thinks it's a bad idea

There shouldn't have to be a policing of it, but I agree that feedback is an integral part of the competition and we should be able to trust that all entries have been read by a person when they vote.
Also, someone could just whack a 'good work- 555' or whatever on a parody they haven't read simply because they know that there'll be someone watching out for those who don't comment.
If you're willing to give up your time, Stu, I say go for it but I see it as a pretty pointless endeavour.
Trust, man. TRUST.

Good point about the meaningless 'good work - 555' comment, Luke, and as you say, that would make the whole exercise timely and pointless, so you've convinced me - I won't do it

Dubya, Rick Kapalin, and Anderson Arauyo were disqualified for not voting so they forfeit the whopping three votes they combined for and are ineligible to enter the July SOTM. Congratulations to Jeff, Stu, and Red Ant. Thanks to all who participated and voted properly, especially those who left comments on all the other parodies instead of giving some lame cop-out. And that's all I have to say about that.

Come back, Claude Prez. Please come back.
And I second Dee's fifth.

Seconded.
...the congratulations for Jeff, Stu and Red Ant for their first, second and third, that is. Not Spaff's equal-third acceptance speech about seconding eighth place Dee's fifth.
:o

Not Spaff's equal-third acceptance speech about seconding eighth place Dee's fifth.
d'oh! I was trying to come up with that line :\'(
Congrats Jeff, and Red Ant (and Spaff?) and I'm grateful to finally have proof that I don't have psychic powers, because I was trying to WILL my mangoes past Jeff's barmaids from about July 30th on. Bastard!ÂÂ
No, congrats again Jeff, for your witty tale, but don't come crashing into any of my bars trying to break up barmaid fights - (IF you know what's good for you...) (IF you know what I mean...) (IF a picture paints a thousand words then why can't I paint you...)

Congratulations to Jeff, Stu and Red Ant! Another sterling round from a slew of wonderful writers. Thanks all who voted for me. Thank you more for your comments. I will sixth, Stu's motion (since he and Luke probably finished off the fifth by now). I re-visit parodies to review the comments you all leave. That's what this is all about.

Congrats to Jeff, Stu, Red Ant, and Spaff, and to the rest of us lovable (I hope) losers...great round!!! Lots of tremendous stuff this month.
And it seems like my fifth was drunk up way too soon...which is why I always keep a 1.75 litre bottle in reserve. Writing can be thirsty work...
Stu, the fish weren't biting, but at least the mosquitos were. I lost 3.5 pounds on my trip, which I swear was mostly blood. There is a whole slew of fat...and drunk...mosquitoes up in them thar hills lol :D

Eh, if there's no written policy about not actually viewing the entrants, then let's leave it unwritten that other contestants are free to not vote on the impolite entrant(s) that don't take the time. Let's not make this too overly strict, because it's all supposed to be fun and there's no money prize involved (yet ;)).
Congrats to Jeff, Stu & Red Ant!! 8)

Why would I even think of breaking them up? I'll just sit back, relax, and grab a Stella (the beer, not the barmaid).
Congrats to Stu, Red Ant and to everyone who participated, voted and commented. I know that my writing's improved as a direct result from several people here, and I owe this song to the people who introduced me to "The Greatest Monkees Cover Band Ever" (according to Stu)

well, of course, the Monkees were THE greatest Monkees cover band ever - but the Beatles were right up there ;)
and I have those two bottles of Stella on ice, waiting for the day, Jeff... :)

Congratulations to Jeff, Stu and.......I? Wow, and by a tie-breaker no less.
A thank you goes out to all of the WONDERFUL English, spelling and typing teachers I had in school as well. ;)
Thanks to all who voted/commented and participated in the contest. Great month everyone. :)

Is this like PGA scoring, where if two golfers tie for 3rd place, the person behind them is in 5th?
Regardless, I'm more than happy to take 5th OR 6th behind the brilliant work of Jeff, Stu, Red Ant, Spaff and Kristof.
As for the voting/commentary controversy... I'll settle for taking the fifth.
Congratulations, guys!

Congrats to Jeff, Stu and Red Ant. According to Swedish tradition I'm sending blondes over as extra very special prizes; one for the winner for one week, two for Stu for two and three to Red Ant for three, etc...

Thank God seventh place doesn't win anything. If Peter sent 7 bloindes, I'd be dead now! I'd be smiling though.

Now, speaking as someone who came in with a massive ONE vote (not surprised, really: it was a good song, but not in the same league as a dozen or so of the entries this month), the thought of a dozen or so blondes turning up... hey, Peter, did you mention what sex of blonde (or am I going to find a load of manly hunks on my doorstep?) Ah well, {$daydream-}
Well done Jeff, Stu and Red Ant. Excellent stuff, indeed.

Stu: What can I say? Immense talent; always worth keep an eye on
Antman: Boy howdy, has this lad come a long way or what?
It's always great to see new names in the top 3: keep the talent flowing!

Congrats to Jeff (MORE BEER AND MORE MOPS!),
congrats to Stu (Movin' to the country, gonna duel a lotta mangoes),
congrats to Red Ant (Them's some big, rhymin' words there),
and congrats to everyone else who beat my attractively fat @$$ this month.
Great fun you all. I gotta sit the next one out due to a big writing drought over here for the month of July. Have a great one though. I'll see you all soon enough.
