Subject: March SOTM Voting Thread
Written By: Claude_Prez on 04/08/05 at 8:04 pm
Note to new participants: Welcome, and good luck. Please read all guidelines carefully. Especially, please make sure to read all the entries and vote by the end of the month. The SOTM is not so much a contest as a feedback exchange. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, either in this thread or via personal message. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
~~Vote by replying to this thread with your five favorites in order:
1st choice- 5 points
2nd place- 4 points
3rd place- 3 points
4th place- 2 points
5th place- 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters are strongly encouraged to leave at least a brief comment on every parody, to prove they've at least clicked on them all. Failure to do so will not result in official consequences, but will indicate to others that you're not interested in receiving comments either.
~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins.
If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins.
If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held.
All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries.
Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

A most unusual round, with so many newbies, 3 (count' em!) 3 "Boxer" parodies, and a poem parody. Emi, you deserve a special mention for your work, even though it is not a song--I like your adaptation better than Lou Reed's! :D

Oops. I meant to mention this before, but I forgot. Technically, these votes, while certainly appreciated, are ineligible because DAK hasn't yet participated in a SOTM contest. I apologize for not pointing it out sooner, and again, truly appreciate that someone who isn't participating would take the time to vote. Thank you.

Hey man, thanks for checking out all the entries even though you were under no obligation to do so! It's so cool whenever anyone does that. You should enter the April round -- you'll get tons of extra exposure for the parody you enter. :)

Thanks! I'm thinking of entering the April one anyway, but i'm stuck for 3 parodies. 2 i've already submitted and have gotten decent marks, and the other I really really like and should be coming up real soon
When is the entrant's thread for the April SOTM?

Watch for Claude (or one of us Claude-wannabes) to start the entry thread sometime on May 1st and then you have from then until May 8th to decide which parody to enter and post it to the thread. :)

Hey y'all. Long time no see.
I hate to ask for special favors, but is there any way we can extend voting through Sunday (May 1)? It's been one of those months, but I'll have some breathing room starting Sunday afternoon/evening.
If the answer is no, I understand, and I'll stay up Saturday night as late as necessary to get this done.

Fine by me (but that's just one Swede voicing his opinion so far so don't take it as an absolute vodka excuse until others have had their say).
I had a similar problem during a previous month (though it worked out) so even if it's too late to put it up for vote during this session I'm thinking maybe we could have an adding to the rules, something like:
If the last day of the month takes place on a Friday or Saturday then the voting period is extended throughout the weekend, until midnight between Sunday and Monday.
(Feel free to rephrase that to something shorter everybody).
And By The Way:
Monday May Second is my 40:th Birthday so if I'm going to get my first SOTM Victory as a birthday gift it's really about time for you who are still to vote to start bringing out the 5s!!!  :P

I didn't enter the March SOTM contest, so I shouldn't be part of the decision-making process on Spaff's request. But it seems like a condition for giving him the extension should be for him to provide some of the details on what consumed all of his time in April.

I was actually starting to worry you got hit by a big truck or something. The voting deadline is now Monday, May 2, sometime around noonish I imagine. I'm guessing the other 4 or 5 people who haven't voted yet won't mind either.

Well, I had to speak at the funeral mass. And then we were in conclave, of course. And then there were all of our press conferences, trying to spin Ratzinger as a compassionate conservative.
Actually, I've been on business trips pretty much non-stop all month. Having toured extensively with Will To Power, I can tell you that business travel is exactly the same as being on tour with a band - except without the sex, drugs, and rock & roll.
But y'all aren't even reading this - you're scanning past it to get to my votes. Here they are, and once again, I had to sweat blood to narrow it to five and rank them:

I'd personally like to thank Spaff, for asking for the deadline extension due to his losery business trips...which allowed for my late votes due to my losery tendency to just not get my butt in gear in a timely manner...
Anyway...
5 points for Claude, because his talent disgusts me...much.
4 points for Stuart, because I wanna make fun of those silly fan girls and have yet to find such a clever way to do it as his...
3 points for Kristof, because his parody rocked, even if I don't have a clever thing to say about it right now... >:(...
2 points for Phil...my tongue is still twisted, and I'm fairly sure I'll be singing "The Boxer" all night...
1 point for Jeff...who always makes me laugh...and this month was no exception...
H.M. to both Scathe and Guy...and hey, nice work to everyone else!ÂÂ

Well, okay then. Disqualified for not voting (and also ineligible to participate next month even if they wanted to) are Ash and EmiLoca, who combined for 34 points, the most anyone's ever had to forfeit. So the totals now look like this:
First Place: "That Don't Disgust Me Much" by Claude Prez -- 45 points
Second Place: "Pedophilia!" by Spaff.com -- 44 points
Third Place: "Roddenberry's Lonely Star Trek Fans" by Johnny D -- 32 points
Phil Alexander also received 32 points, but according to the tiebreaker rule, the one with the most first place points wins; it went Johnny's way, 5-1.
Phil  32
Stuart McArthur 31
Jeff Reuben 23
Guy DiRito 19
Kristof Robertson 17
Charlie Decker 9
Rick Cormier 9
Agrimorfee 6
MooRocca 6
Scathe 6
Arwen 4
K1chyd 3
Luke Brattoni 3
Rex Ungerlicht 3
Tim Mayfield 3
Adagio 1
Great job all, thanks to all who voted and yes I think it sucks that I had to disqualify someone who did so well.

Here's my tribute to the winners (to the tune of "I Should Have Known Better" by the Beatles):
I shoulda known better than compete with you
In any SOTM review
‘Cause I knew votes for you would accrue
I shoulda realized that my parody
Was not as good as it needs to be
Can’t you see I agree
That when I’m ranking all the lyrics
I put your song ahead of mine
I stand in awe of what you wrote
Brilliant on each and every line
So I’m workin’ even harder than I did before
To write a parody you can’t ignore
That’ll score at least four, maybe more!

well done Claude and Spaff and Johnny.
and commiserations to Spaff
(missing by 1 vote is the cruelest result)
and to Phil
(although I agree with the countback method, because sometimes, there being a ceiling of 5 for BEST choice, a 5 is really an 8 or 9, if it were possible, so 5s should have extra value)

Not when it puts you within spitting distance of Claude Prez. It's an honor.
Congrats to all the wieners and thank y'all for your support.

This is what I get for completely forgetting to vote/SOTM everyone... I'm sorry! :\'(
Congrats to the winners though... I guess I'll have a month off...
I was really busy though. Yeah, that's my excuse... but I guess I had no points to lose anyway... :-[

Congrats to Claude, Spaff and Johnny D. Like Rex said, I should have known better as well. Although it didn't stop me from entering in April....guess I'm a slow learner, huh?
