Subject: November Song of the Month Voting
Written By: Claude_Prez on 12/08/04 at 12:32 pm
~~Vote by replying to this thread with your three favorites in order: Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters must leave a brief comment on every parody, indicating they've read it for the SOTM contest (something like, "SOTM--555" or whatever)
~~In the event of a tie, the parody with the most first place votes wins. If it's still tied, the parody with the most second place votes wins. If it's still tied, a brief playoff round will be held. All participants will have the first week of the month to choose one favorite from among the tied entries. Tiebreaker voting is strongly encouraged but not required. On the eighth day the one with the most votes wins.

with the odd selective-censorship on this site, bump could easliy have been b***
which would have made your comment read very flirtatiously in Australia, Arwen ;)

All bumping aside...here are my votes:
3 points for Mr. Reuben, who followed me around for months collecting research for his November entry.
2 points for MooRocca, who's entry will be giving me nightmares for years to come... ;)
1 point for Claude...I'll admit that I'm addicted to celebrity gossip magazines...not quite as bad as tabloids...at least that's my justification...

It is always difficult to evaluate and compare parodies that have different topics and are based on different original songs. It was particularly difficult this month, when I concluded that the two best parodies were Johnny D’s “The Weight†and MooRocca’s “Grandma Makes Her Living as a Stripper.â€Â One is the epitome of reverence and the other shows absolutely no respect for grandmothers. But, even though (or maybe because) I happen to be married to a grandmother, I am going with parody #15.ÂÂ
3 points - MooRocca - #15 - Grandma Makes Her Living as a Stripper
2 points - Johnny D - #9 - The Weight
1 point - Rick Duncan - #1 - Ron Artest

I think I said a few months back something like even though political parodies can be funny they´re not funny enough to (IMO) be in SOTM. But that darn Spaff proved me wrong again! It was also a bonus that I got to learn that the colour red has the opposite political meaning in the states compared to Scandinavia. Which is very confusing cos religious references/reasonings aside his parody hits close to home to some of the redest and provinsialistic people I know over here! OK, so maybe I got/found some extra levels in it but that´s the way it is.
3 Points: Spaff.com´s “Red state womanâ€Â
2 Point: MooRocca´s “Grandma makes her living as a stripperâ€Â
1 Point: Claude Prez “I read it in the tabloidsâ€Â

Stellar round. I really enjoyed going through the entries. I've said this before, but it's physically painful for me to look at my list of favorites and have to cross some of them off. I mean I honestly get a headache.

Found this one a very hard round to choose a 1-2-3...
3 points almost inevitably to #2 - Red State Woman: ain't nothing finer than a funny and sharp satire
2 points to #1 - Rick's Ron Artest - if only because it's a sports parody I enjoyed start to finish
1 point to #15 - MooRocca's Grandma (so to speak)
I started mentioning honourables... but realized I was about to list pretty much all the rest.

Well, I did kind of a rush job cause I totally forgot about needing to vote until just now... but I'm pretty confident I'd vote about the same way regardless.
1st place: Spaff's Red State Woman
2nd place: Reuben's You're More Like a Brother to Me
3rd place: super hard choice between MooRocca's Grandma and Claude Prez's Tabloids. Geez. I'll go with the latter (Claude's), I guess.

All parodies this round were an absolute JOY to read, and it is my pleasure to announce the lucky three "randomly-chosen" parodies that will get the prestigious VOTES OF EMI.

2 points discreetly passed in a briefcase to #8. John Jenkins for "CBS"

Congratulations to MooRocca, Spaff, and myself and thanks to all who voted, especially those who didn't have to. Only Guy DiRito failed to vote, which is understandable with the holidays and all. But still, unfortunately, he'll forfeit his six votes and be ineligible to participate in the December contest. But he'll still be welcome in the Wild Card Contest which starts today as well. Thanks everybody and great round as usual.

Great round, everyone. Congrats to MooRocca and Claude, two of the authors whose stuff first convinced me I wanted to loiter in Chucky's hood.
As for my making into the top three, I'm surprised, honestly. I assumed that such a political rant would alienate too many of you to stand a chance. But evidently it didn't, so thank you for your votes - and I hereby announce that from now on ALL of my stuff is going to be bitter political attacks on the Right.
Heh heh.
