Subject: November Song of the Month Entries ----- Entries Closed
Written By: Claude_Prez on 11/30/04 at 7:14 pm
~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.
~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.
~~By entering, you are agreeing to read all the other entries and vote.
~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.
~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your three favorites in order: Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters must leave a brief comment on every parody, indicating they've read it for the SOTM contest (something like, "SOTM--555" or whatever)
~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest should copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.
~~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post. Changes are made only when a majority of that month's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

Since this was Mari's suggestion, I have to enter it. "Ron Artest" to another song I swore I'd never attempt.

I'm gonna go with "Red State Woman," even at the risk of making some of you see blue. Er, red.

I'm trying to figure out how Spaff could NOT enter "It's the Most Wonderful Kind of Brassiere" and submitting CBS.

In past years I've sometimes experienced the blues around the Christmas holiday season, from all the commercialism, the incessant and insipid MUZAK in the stores, the pressure to shop and spend and buy buy buy ... This year I'm feeling better about the holidays, as I try to relax more and meditate on what Christmas is really all about...hence, my entry:
The Weight
Link to my temporarily-posted free MP3 of the original song, also titled "The Weight", by The Band

Now that I again have a new parody, I might as well enter it. http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/britneyspears114.shtml
I'm sure everyone has heard the original already, this time.

;D I have to enter this contest, if only to vote for other songs.
I'll use my third parody as an entree even though Dee Range did a much better job spoofing this song.

He's clearly toying with us, like when Ken Jennings would tie the daily Jeopardy winning amount record when he could've shattered it easily a number of times. He's e-vil, I tell you.

Well, you´re still allowed to vote...
I kinda liked the one you wrote about cats and I think that it might have picked up some votes.
And I also think I´m not the only one who would back a suggestion to let you in late if it wasn´t for the fact that the first votes have already been casted now.
Maybe there could be a rule that late entries ARE allowed UNTIL the first vote has been casted... and with the siderule that those entries automatically loose in a tie situation so as to keep the/some incentive for submitting in time... or something like that.
If you take it upon yourself to form the phrase for that rule, and post it as a suggestion in the right thread, I´ll probably support it.

Yeah, I meant to respond to Phil's post earlier but forgot. It occurred to me to just let him in -- especially since he's proven to be good about the voting commitment -- but I didn't want to abuse my position, making exceptions, playing favorites or whatnot. I guess my feeling is if someone really wants to participate, the entry window is certainly large enough as it is and my vote would be to avoid complicating things. But as always, I'll abide by the majority decision if they decide to change it.

Oh, go ahead and change it...it's all just for fun anyway! I for one don't mind if you "abuse your position" in this regard, Claude...all I ask is, please, don't abuse your position where I have to watch, or where you'll make a mess... ;D

I don't want an exception made just for me - I actually had my submission ready to go (the Marseillaise parody), but thought I'd find a MIDI for those who didn't know the song. Then I had a support call, had to install a bit of software that restarted the PC and didn't get back till wednesday. C'est la vie.

PS That's just my excuse for not entering a round I've got no chance of winning... I had one of my most prolific months with 22 parodies, but none were *that* good.

I didn´t mean it to be just for you and just this month, because there has been votes cast already and even though highly likely we can not know if those voters intend to visit the voting thread during the rest of the present month so they might miss out on the possible addition of another contestant, I was thinking more in terms of a rule for months to come.
*Whipes forehead after writing that sentence*.

Evil, certainly. But I ain't no Ken Jennings. Like that country song says, "I'm just a writer of simple songs - I don't know Iraq from Iran or my butt from a hole in the ground, but I do like to toss down a cold one with Jesus." Truth is, I only had two November submissions to choose from, and the comments on "Red State Woman" were much more enthusiastic than the ones on "It's the Most Wonderful Kind of Brassiere." So I chose Bush over boobs.

And wouldn't we all, given the same choice? ;) Personally, I prefer songs with that kind of bite: IMO "Red State Woman" is a much sharper and wittier parody... so it's probably going to pick up fewer votes...
