Subject: Weird parody challenge - submissions closed now
Written By: Meriadoc on 11/30/04 at 3:23 am
I decided to post this here instead of the other parody board spot, as I would like to make this a contest if I can get enough entries.... :)
Have you ever been grabbed by a silly phrase that just won't leave your head, and keeps making you giggle?
Well, some years ago, I was transcribing an old will from the 1600s, and I came across the phrase:
"When the corne is out of Parc an Venton..."
I laughed at the time, thinking it would nake a funny line is a goofy love song; now I am thinking it might be great parody fodder.
So here is the challange:
Write a parody about any subject you wish, but include the line:
"when the corne is out of Parc an Venton"
Submit to Amiright, and then post the link here when it is posted. If I can get a decent response I will put it up as a contest. Let's give it till the end of Sunday, Dec. 12th (US PST) to submit here.
Thanks! ;)

If I could remember anything other than the first line of "When the carnival is over", I'd have a go with that one..
It's a bit La Belle Dame Sans Merci, ain't it:
"Oh, what can ail thee, knight at arms
Alone and palely loitering
The corne is out of Parc an Venton
And no birds sing"
Hmm... I'm going to be off for a couple of days, I'll see if anything comes to mind

I now, officially, lay claim to The Doors' song "When The Music's Over" as the original song that I shall parody for my entry in this contest! ;D ;D ;D
Of course I can't really lay claim to any particular original song, I know, I know, it's all just in fun .....
I just wanted folks to know which song I plan to parody ..... Please, feel free to parody the same song, too!
Here is part of the parody I shall submit:
Verily, come on...
When the corne is out of...
When the corne is out of there...
When the corne is out of,
Parc an Venton,
Parc an Venton,
Parc an Venton, chere...

I just submitted my entry:
"When The Corne Is Out Of",
a parody of "When The Music's Over" by The Doors.
The chorus is slightly different from what I posted earlier in this thread, but still pretty much the same.

I've got this tune stuck in my head that fits the phrase perfectly, something like "I wish I were an Oscar Myer weiner."
I think it's some advertisement that was on in the 80s or something, does anyone know it?
It's probably one that every US kid alive knows and I look a complete ass screwing up the words...

Or it could be from the close-to one hit wonder "Funky Cold Medina" by Tone Loc, check the end of the quoted paragraph below
I went up to this girl
She said "Hi, my name is Sheena"
I'd thought she'd be good to go
With a little funky cold medina
She siad "I'd like a drink"
I said hmm, I'll go get it
And then a couple of sips
She cold licked her lips
And I knew that she was wit' it
So I took her to my crib
Everything went as well as planned
But when she got undressed
It was a big ol' mess
Sheena was a man
So I threw him out
I don't fool around
With no Oscar Mayer Weiner
You must be sure you're girl is pure
For the funky cold medina

BTW: Can you "translate" the phrase for me to?

Found it:
I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Weiner
That is what I truly wish to be
cause if i were a oscar mayer weiner
everyone would be in love
oh everyone would be in love
everyone would be in love with me
...too short to parody, unless I do heaps of verses.

I don´t know the rhythm of that commercial so I don´t know if this fits. Maybe you can adjust it if it needs to.
I wish you were the One Guy mighty whiner
That is what I truly wish you´d be
Cos if you were the One Guy mighty whiner
everyone could use their glove
and everyone your votes could shove
Everyday would be our spanking spree

Don't worry - We will have one. I am not sure if it will be a joint effort, or if Pip and I will write separate ones in order to add to the volume... does anyone think that would be permissable? :)
Oh! Either way - we have dibs on "Cracklin' Rosie" and "Aquarius."

Very loose translation:

But you can parody it any way you want - the weirder the better! :D

Okay guys - I need some more feedback. I've written mine; Pip's is almost done. Should we submit them both as Merry & Pippin, and say whose is whose? Or let you guess? I would kind of like to have them both under M&P so they go in with our other parodies. What do you all think...?

Enter them both under M&P so they go in with your other parodies, but in the top-box above the parody, put a note saying which one is by Merry and which is by Pippin. It would be both fun and interesting to help your readers start to get a feel for your individual styles.

It will certainly help you to sort the wheat from the chaff, ha ha! I would find that statement funnier if I didn’t think that I was gonna be the chaff… :(
I think your ability to tell our styles apart will hereafter fall into the category of “bleedingly obviousâ€Â!!

Hmmm...well, at least that point has been cleared up...
thanks...
The only song that comes to mind is the old number by the Band, "King Harvest", but the syllables in the line I would want to use from that don't fit the length of that phrase and I can't see a way to start the phrase on the line above it and continue it into the line I like...so for now I must pass...might take a look back at this later on...

I find the agrarian aspect of this interesting, must be my upbringin in the boonies, and I´ve been sketching since Sunday something that I think I will be able to finish during the course of this week. In other words: count me down as a second maybe.

I´m changing my status from maybe to absolute (corne vodka?) and it will be my first parody of a song I probably would have keept on not knowing about if it hadn´t been for AmIright: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
I´ll call my entry "When the corne is out of Parc and Venton" and use variations for the first syllables in the main line.

I am really pleased at the turnout!
I am holding the submissions open for a bit longer, as Andy Roper has promised me his by the end of next week. That should give us a nice full quota of parodies to work with.
So anyone else who wants to enter, you still have some time left!

This seems to have wound down - should I close it up today instead of waiting for the 18th? I would like to get the voting thread out by tonight and was going to allow till the end of the month to vote since lots of people might be busy with Holiday related stuff.
Also, very important - since Pip and I did ours separately and not as a team, is it fair for us to vote for each other (if the parody(s) warrents it of course)..?
Opinions please!
Thanks

Of course. I mean, this is one of the few times you're not hampered by having to vote twice for other people's songs...
