Subject: October Song of the Month Entries -- Entries closed
Written By: Claude_Prez on 10/31/04 at 11:30 pm
~~Entries begin after the last parody update of the month.
~~Any song first appearing at AmiRight during the contest month (this year) is eligible.
~~To enter, reply to this thread with the url of your entry.
~~By entering, you are agreeing to read all the other entries and vote.
~~On the eighth day of the month, entries close and voting begins.
~~Vote by replying to voting thread with your three favorites in order: Top choice gets 3 points, next gets 2 points, third favorite gets 1 point.
~~You're not allowed to vote for your own song.
~~Once you've posted a vote, you're not allowed to change it.
~~Voting continues until the last day of the month ends.
~~Anyone who's participated in a SOTM contest may vote.
~~Anyone who enters but does not vote by the end of the month is disqualified and may not participate next month.
~~Voters must leave a brief comment on every parody, indicating they've read it for the SOTM contest (something like, "SOTM--555" or whatever)
~~When the new month begins, the first person to enter the next contest should copy this message and start the new entry thread with it.
~~Rule changes may be suggested by any participant in their entry post. Changes are made only when a majority of that month's voters specify a "yes" vote along with their contest votes.

Claude, what's the verdict on the proposed "Tie-Breaking Rule"? Are we expecting any court litigation? I think the Appeals Courts are going to be a little busy for a while after November 2nd...

Since I'm getting sick of entering my Pink Floyd parodies, "E.T" was in another contest, and "Warm Leatherette " is too obscure, iI'm entering this one into the fray (and since no one has voted or commented as of this writing):

I used to not write "topical" parodies because they're not as appealing after the event has past. But I've learned a lot about the value of them from you people. This is my favorite of the month, because I wrote it very fast, and performed it two days later. "Janet Leigh" to "Let It Be"

Now now, did you think I'd let another month go by where I didn't try again to see if I could win anything? ;)
The name of the Original is "American Idiot"

October was a good month for me... there's three or four that I'd really like to enter. However, the one I'd say is probably the best of 'em starts with a W so I'm going to save it for the ABCs instead. OK... the official entry from the Baggins collection is:
See Your Chest (to 'Be Our Guest' by Disney)

Being election month, I guess it's my patriotic duty to enter my version of THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER
                       http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/francisscottkey2.shtml
I am also in the process of making a flash cartoon for internet distribution to my parody of the BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC, which I published here under the name "A Room Full Of Deranged Red Sox Fans". It has been enlarged and modified for the cartoon, which I hope to have up within 10 days. Will keep you posted ;)

Claude! I´m well aware that A Room Full Of Monkeys was originally your idea/alias, and if you claime this one to be yours I personally have no objections against that, but things (this monthly contest) could start to be very complicated if we are all allowed to enter with parodies submitted under different names or second aliases etc. I DO NOT want to disqualify you, that´s not what I´m saying here so please don´t take it that way, but maybe you should add some sort of rule about this for next month and forward?

OK, here is my October entry: based on Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" we have "Hungry Kitty(Don't Devour Me)" a mouse-eye view of the hungry "Cat about the house":

That's a good point; I didn't even think of that. I don't know, though -- I have a hard time believing anyone would be dumb enough to try to take credit for someone else's song. My inclination is to take any songs people enter, and if anyone ever challenges it, I'm confident we can cross that bridge and get to the bottom of it. If you (or anyone else) think we should make a specific rule about it now, feel free to propose it, wording it exactly as you want it to appear, and we can vote on it this month.

Agreed.
My general concern is more along the lines of how multiple aliases could be confusing to newbie parody writers on AmIright, hence maybe making it harder for them to get the hang off this part of the site and harder to get into the community at large. This competition is an important part of that/this whole AmIright community, and this subject is no big problem at this point, but it might be a little problem if the use of several aliases takes to being used more frequently.
I don´t have a litteral idea for a rule at this time, maybe the fact that the subject was brought up will be enough and that we won´t need one.

Again, a good point. I've been planning for some time to get to work on both a Song Parody and Song Parody Contests FAQ (Chuck once said if someone wrote one he'd nail it to the top) and if I ever get around to it, I'll find a way to address it. Thanks.

My apologies for the prolonged absence. I've been racking up so many frequent flyer miles that I've earned a trip to Uranus.
Anyhoo, in case I haven't missed the deadline, here's my entry: "Buy Yams...I Said" to "I Am...I Said":

If any of you haven't heard the Neil Diamond original, you NEED to. It's the one that contains the immortal line "no one heard at all, not even the chair." I'm not kidding. I'll try to get an MP3 of the original up soon.

He should have said, "and that dumb, stupid chair; it didn't care" It matches in syllable count, but I yam not sure if the cadence would still work.
